American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

Buffs are a bit harder to tell, are the voices alike? Having the 2 lobes (belly flaps) and the short necks tell me both are goose.
My buff gander had a longer neck, and very shrill call.

I had purchased two American lavender ice as pairs, but the buffs.... One of them has a skinnier neck, but both sound the same and are about the same height. Their lobes (learned a new one today) is what threw me off because up until now I was sure these were a pair as well...

thanks jchny2000 I will have to make sure I keep him separate from my blues and buff. And chwychuro my Americans ganders are taller walk with there chest puffed out

and are very loud the female has a crokey kind of voice. the ganders have this thing they have to be up high.

I keep coming back to this breed

Probably wont get any until next year but... from what I've been reading it seems a trio is best to start with (incase something happens to one). But so far to order sexed ones I'm only seeing the option to get pairs. If I get 3 straight run and end up with 2 males or all 3 males, will I have problems? Will extra or unpaired males go after my ducks? Or even chickens? Thanks.

I have never seen a gander try to breed with chickens. Ducks, possibly. with 2 boys, one will be alpha. 3 means they will just focus on protecting other birds.

Well I finally saw my American Blues breeding over the week end I did the happy dance , I hope the weather doesn't get cold . I am going to try and hatch some eggs got a new incubator a brinsea and some goose rails . I am hoping to get a female for my buff he is very lonely he is in love with his dog house poor baby. I am getting excited for the spring.

Well Fred and Wilma or I should say Wilma started laying eggs but something was eating them I had to move there dog house and at the same time lost 5 ducks to a fox I am hot wiring every thing. I made a new pen for they ducks and hot wired it on the bottom and top the egg thief was a coon , the fox was coming in under the fence put cinder blocks down and this week end will wire the whole pen top and bottom. I have been collecting the goose eggs and putting fake goose eggs in place I am going to incubate at least 6 eggs. I hate doing this to Wilma but I am afraid I will end up with no eggs. If the egg thief is gone I will let her have some eggs. Now I am worried about the Avian flu there was and out break in Christian County KY that were I live. never stops does it.

I haven't heard of the flu being in KY have you heard from anyone about where it hit? Large poultry farm etc?
It never does donkeydew2farms
I am sorry for your duck losses and hope you have gotten rid of your egg thief too.

We went to a sale in Trenton KY today & found out about the bird flu in Christian county KY. No sale today & not for another couple of months! We were wanting to buy some more grown geese ourselves and now can't find any.
