Oh. . one more thing I learned. Shoveler ducks are still pretty cute even when their dead.
Someone we know went hunting this morning and got 3..
They don't eat duck or use their feathers.
They just trash them.
Anyway. .
I'm cooking duck tomorrow if anyone has suggestions.

I’ve never had them but supposedly shovelers don’t taste all that good. Are you positive he just doesn’t eat them. In which case why shoot them anyway.

I don't know that I've ever smelled anise to know.
Maybe a slight licorice scent. .
Idk it's hard to describe.
It sure don't smell like something I'd wanna eat. Almost reminds me of cough syrup smell. It don't smell great by any means. But it ain't awful.

He says he has a friend that he takes them to sometimes that will make them into jerky and give him some. Other than that he says he doesn't eat them.

Cut out the breasts and marinate in lawrys of your choice for a day or so. Then wrap in bacon and bake for 45 min at 350 in a Pyrex pan. You can grill them til the bacon is done too.

That’s pretty piss poor to kill something you have no plans to do anything with. Hunters then wonder why people are against it all. There’s really no doubt in my mind.
