So then do you do 4x4 for single males and 4x8s for pairs and trios?

Absolutely. Im sure a 4x4 can handle a trio but the hens get nasty sometimes and peck each other

In my opinion a 4x4 is only good for a single bird or a pair, a trio would be to much for a 4x4

Yes. Im sure ina bind it would work. But not me im giving them 2ft per bird. 4x8 is fantastic I love mine
