American Gamefowl

Thanks! They are asils. They were supposed to take turns free ranging, but I can never get them back into their pens at the end of the day, so I got the tie cords. I only put the tie cord on one of them tonight, inside the pen, and he keeps trying to peck at it and take it off.
Oh I would just put the cords out in the yard and put them on them. I wouldn’t worry about attaching it to their leg while in a pen to get them used to it.
They will peck at them at first for a little while. If it’s the cinch type nylon hitch just make sure you pull it tight to their legs.

Never had one completely freak out I’ve had them be a little flighty for a little bit at first, but they get used to it. Check your cords all over pretty often especially the rubber ones. The rubber cords help with young birds that like to pull a bit more, but they also break down faster... clinch em tight and check em often.

He is hopping around goose-stepping alot. Right now the tie cord is just a clothsline with a leg-attachment that I bought on amazon. I will swap it out for a steel cable so it doesn't tangle so easily.

I use a lot of cable for different things. You don’t want to use it for tie cords. It’ll kink, fray and rust out eventually.
I would go with proper tie cords. They’re not that much and you either buy them from woods like mentioned or some people sell them on eBay.
OK. i have proper hitches already (the one pictured), so I just need to buy the cord part.

thank you for your help. This thread is so much more helpful and friendly than the other threads on this forum :D
