This is the RIR I thought might hatch… the other dark ones I think won’t but I will wait and see.
Also it is lockdown day for the dodgy RIW eggs… their incubator has been hard to keep humidity up… so I moved them all over to this incubator very quickly (except one egg stuck in the cradle, I candled it stuck in there it has a hairline crack)… this incubator works great at keeping everything regulated and way easier to fill with water.
I think out of the whites maybe 2 might hatch... 1 for sure.
I know silly utility breeds, but I have never seen Rose Combed varieties of either of these breeds and that is what I am trying to hatch out. Plus the RIRs are suppose to be proper RIRs not production lines and the whites from a “heritage” breeder… so I am hoping for better feather quality, colour, and body shape than big hatchery production chicks I am also raising.

That really stinks.Been a hard past two days here yesterday had a brood cock get out and go mayhem on half the birds. Today some crackheads were “walking” their dogs down the road and they thought my birds that were on cords were chew toys ran right through the fence. Pulled all the tail feathers out of my hatch rooster and tore the legs up on two sweaters. Of course all three were the ones going to the gba show this week. I had a little talk with said crack heads and don’t figure I’ll be seeing the mutts again. Pretty sure I made myself clear on what the law states here. Hopefully everybody else had a good weekend.
So far just the one. I chucked all eggs I thought no good… and they were all no good (cracked them), down to just a few left in incubator so those are in lockdown but I will be lucky to get one RIW too. Cross the fingers folks.I hope you have some success!
Nah, "utility" breeds are not silly to have. You want eggs through fall/winter, then having those first year layer pullets are the way to go. I like chickens all the way around, so having layers and GF, for me, just works![]()
I think they’ll be just fine. Not puncture wounds or anything just some pulled feathers and a couple scrapes coulda been worse I guessThat really stinks.
I'm glad the birds are still alive, but that's just the pits. I hope they mend quickly.
I like them!got the boys all shined up and ready to go tomorrow.
Thank you it’s a good time always good people there. Hopefully they can get a few awards. Those are the 2nd string team we will see. Probably be flooding the thread with pics later.I like them!
Good luck, hope you have a good time!
