I understand and I appreciate the patience you guys have for all of my questions. I do recall coming across posts from you guys saying how you have to put certain hens on tie cords because they kept getting into fights.

Gamefowl cover a wide spectrum in terms of behavior. Some breeders encourage/tolerate "man fighters" as they think it makes for a more aggressive bird over all, but most do not. There are many good strains that are as gentle as kittens to humans but will not tolerate another bird. A mature cock bird needs to be respected, but I will not keep anything that is aggressive towards me. It is bad enough for me to get nailed, but my wife and son help care for the birds.

Do you know of a breeder that actually encourages “man fighters?” You can’t even handle them so I don’t see what the point is? Nobody in their right mind would use those birds.
I crossed leipers and penny hatch a couple years ago. The pullets were probably the some of the nicest I’ve ever seen but every single stag was alligator mean. I killed them all Same goes for a few blacks too.
Again I think we’d have to have a clear definition of what a manfighter is.

Personally, no. Just from reading, some strains are too aggressive to really handle. I think in the truest sense, a man fighter is anything that would rather fight a person than a rooster. To me, it is a bird that is too aggressive to be handled safely. I like a cocky bird, but I want to be able to pick up everything. The exception I make is when other roosters are close by. Some want to strike at anything that moves when another rooster is close. To me that becomes a handling issue on me.

Are we talking in a pen or out on a cord? I think it makes a difference. I’m not culling a bird if he’s been in a pen and not handled for awhile and he tries to nail me once. If he keeps doing it after he should realize I’m not a threat well then he needs culled. I also don’t mind a bird that’ll peck a couple times when you first pick him up. Again if he keeps doing it and hard I’ll cull him for that too. Especially on a cord though if they try to hit me while on a cord I’ll usually kill them on the spot.
There’s obvious exceptions though. That’s not me holding the bird in the pic I posted last night. I guarantee some people could make that bird mean without trying too hard. I see people with their arms flailing reaching for birds instead of being confident in what they’re doing. That’s a fast way to irritate them.

I just don’t think when it comes to roosters it can be summed up so cut and dry. Tons of variables on each persons yard. One guy can handle a family with no issues while the next guy can’t for a number of reasons.
