American Gamefowl

Most predators are scared to death of humans and avoid us at all costs. And rightfully so. If I felt a predator were too bold and close to my children I would handle it, like a lion killing a hyena or whatever. But I don't like genocides on entire animal populations.

This is why California doesnt have anymore wolves or Grizzlys.

Agreed I am not against hunting at all. I think prey need to be hunted and hunters need to hunt.

But I dont think trapping is hunting. Baiting and killing a trapped animal for any reason other than survival (like eating meat in a survival situation or dying of cold exposure and need fur) is not right in my opinion.
Hypocritical buddy. I don’t think you really understand what you’re saying.

what I am saying is if an individual was a threat I would get it, but I wouldnt kill the whole lot of them.
And I do enjoy being at the top of the food chain, where other predators are in fear of me.

You’re being awfully dramatic with your comparisons. We’ve come a long way since trapping out species and practically hunting the buffalo to extinction.

Not trying to argue.. But we'll see if you still feel the same way When everything becomes illegal and the government decides the animals are more important than people and we all have to live on top of each other in one room apartments with 12 foot tall fences around us to protect the animals from us evil humans.
There will be no more enjoyment of nature at all.
True sportsmen are who keeps everything in balance.

Very true and good point. The bad ones will still do it regardless. Cant argue with that at all. But a ban may make it easier to prosecute illegal trappers. maybe

I am not a trapper so I dont have any experience or knowledge about the correct methods/seasons, but ironically my last name literally means fur trapper in Russian.
Sorry Shubin,
But there won't be any funding to pay the agents to go out and catch the poachers to prosecute them.

I manage our property to help quail and turkey populations that suffer from a high population of nest robbing fur-bearers... I do that by trapping... there is no other legal method that is effective...

I’m not coming anywhere near wiping out populations... but it can make a huge difference in the number of quail and turkey young that survive their first year...

I’m curious, do you think this management tool that helps support my wild fowl populations is wrong as well?

You are right... at this point sportsmen are important because they have taken on the role of big predators (which were annihilated for the most part) and keep balance on prey populations.

Ultimately we need less humans in this world. Rules and laws are a byproduct of a greater problem. human overpopulation.

From that point of view its a good thing. You are the alpha predator now like I mentioned above. You have taken on the role of what wolves, cougars and bears would have done.
