We have a deer problem in my town so the obvious logical solution is to tear down a large grove of trees and put attached housing.

ya. It would different 1000 years ago when animals out numbered humans and humans needed to survive, but now-a-days I dont think its right.

There’s a lot that people do that I don’t think is right but it’s none of my business. I’d list them but I’d probably offend an awful lot of people.

I am guessing the deer problems started because of predator loss. Bring back the wolves and cougars.
And stop human encroachment on natural habitat. Build wildlife corridors and restore natural migration routes.

I know its a complicated issue. but I dont like humans. Like Havoc was saying the hunters /fhishers who dont follow rules ruin it for everyone.

Yep. . it would bother me too to see a huge mountain lion outside my bedroom window prowling around where my pets and children play.

Never gonna happen. You live in a fantasy land. The hunters and fishermen annoy me but the people who want to ban it all are the worst. If that happens it will all go away and nobody will care. The few birdwatchers and day hikers don’t do enough or put any money back into conservation.

Most predators are scared to death of humans and avoid us at all costs. And rightfully so. If I felt a predator were too bold and close to my children I would handle it, like a lion killing a hyena or whatever. But I don't like genocides on entire animal populations.

This is why California doesnt have anymore wolves or Grizzlys.

Agreed I am not against hunting at all. I think prey need to be hunted and hunters need to hunt.

But I dont think trapping is hunting. Baiting and killing a trapped animal for any reason other than survival (like eating meat in a survival situation or dying of cold exposure and need fur) is not right in my opinion.

But to ban trapping is just like banning guns in my opinion. Those who are doing it illegally are going to do it anyway..
Folks I know who enjoy hunting and fishing and trapping legally are usually way more concerned and care more about the conservation of animals than most people who don't want to see any animals to be hunted or killed by humans.

Very true and good point. The bad ones will still do it regardless. Cant argue with that at all. But a ban may make it easier to prosecute illegal trappers. maybe

I am not a trapper so I dont have any experience or knowledge about the correct methods/seasons, but ironically my last name literally means fur trapper in Russian.
