American Gamefowl

Birds were moved back from road some time ago. Birds taken were on a walk where we have a barn and make maple syrup. We do not live there although in past have used the location as a walk without issue. A new neighbor called and said she took birds and relocated them at her daughter's. She asked if we were fighting chickens there (we have a small number of people coming in to help with syrup making). She then said fighting chickens is illegal. I believe she commented on how pretty and nice the rooster is. He was one of those I used for public displays. My brother took the call.

This was a "rescue". I do not know If I can get him back. He is particularly easy to handle even for kids.

That's some BS right there. What do you mean you don't know if you can get them back. I would tell them bring them back or I'm pressing charges. Regardless of their motivation for doing it
They had no right to just take them because they *assume* your doing something illegal.
Uggh. That makes me furious.

I would be going and getting my chickens back if they wanted to give me a hard time then the law would be there. The problem with the people who aren’t educated in gamefowl always “assume” things but need to educate themselves before taking anything into their own two hands. Hope you get your birds back. This pisses me off…

I agree with everyone it’s theft and BS too, but I get why he might be trying diplomacy first… ‘new neighbor”… being at odds with neighbors sucks as well.

I would tell her she assumed malicious intent and had preconceived ideas that anyone who has gamefowl is automatically going to use them in illegal fighting… and that is incorrect, I would explain her flawed logic in rehoming them because she doesn’t know him so he must be bad man thinking means someone else could think the same of their new keeper, the next “good doer” who doesn’t know the person she rehomed them to, are going to make the same bigoted prejudice judgement and steal the birds again? Simply because everyone is assumed guilty of animal cruelty if they own game fowl. No one is allowed to live game fowl breeds unless they personally are your friends sort of conversation… along with showing her images of the birds used in teaching sort of thing. Try and educate and build the bridge, but if Fing logic diplomacy doesn’t work I would totally call the cops.

Givin the circumstances.. Centra has already had to go around and around with different neighbors where the law has been involved.
And the fact that this is good ol Missourah... good luck getting anyone in law enforcement to do anything about animal issues.
He can't just go find the birds and go giving someone a beat down (which is what a person would like to do)
He'll end up getting his own darn self arrested and he has the kids to think about.

I vote he should give the people a chance to bring the birds back and give them an education about gamefowl and why he has them, and hopefully in the process make them feel foolish as hell for making the assumption they did.

I didn't mean going find them and beat them. I meant people need to watch their self TRESSPASSING on people's private property. And chances are if they are the animal rights activist type they will be unreasonable and unwilling to be schooled in anything but what is stuck in their head.
