American serama thread!

I wouldn't mind if they feed them...but they are doing nothing to control the population. A pipe busted at our house and my husband had to run to where the turn off valve was, two houses down (we all share a well) and about 50 cats scattered. If they were really pets they wouldn't let them get ran over by cars. I really do love cats but these are something completely different. If they stayed away from my chickens I wouldn't mind them...except they spray everywhere. I use to make a bunch of racket, so they would run off, when my husband was trying to shoot them, but not anymore....... Please people don't think bad of me. I am a true animal lover. I brake and swerve for frogs and tarantuals and even snakes and I haven't had a piece of meat since I was fourteen, but this was gone on long enough. These chickens are babies. My husband even thinks I love them more than I love him...shhhh...don't tell him he is right. LOL

i'm not a fan of paint ball guns... i like pellet guns, but i wouldn't hit a cat with it unless i knew it was going to put it out of it's misery... i wouldn't want to hit a cat in the eye and blind it... i hate cats, but that's kind of messed up...

you gotta do what you gotta do... protect your investment and your passion... the way i see it... if it gets in the way of your passion, take it out... even if it was a friendly snake that can eat an entire chicken... take it out... i have a friend that poisoned a bunch of cats because they would hunt and kill his chickens... they wouldn't even eat them... they were just bored i guess... he didn't want to tell anyone, but i saw the bait in his yard... no biggie to me... i hate cats... but it's his passion too...

the worst at my house is that i have falcons and hawks looking down and trying to take my chickens or pigeons every once in a while... i feel bad hitting a hawk with a pellet gun, but if it has a chicken in it's grasp, i'm not gonna want it to come back... once i told my neighbor about his dog... she came over and barked/scared my young pullets... i told him that if i see that dog killing one of my birds, i don't know what i will do... LOL... so he covered upthe holes on his front gate... he knows i'm serious about it too... he's seen me cull my chicks...

I love sand!!! For the outdoor coops we just use a kitty litter scoop. For the babies in the brooders you do need the reptile scoop because the poos are so teeny. Then when you need to, just add more sand. I use either the all purpose or the play sand at Lowes. Mine love sand bathing, dry or wet

Maybe every month or two I need to put 1 bag in the Serama Coop, and 3 bags in the big chicken coop. It's also great for on top of the poop board or on top of the nesting box if they can get onto it, nothing sticks.

5 fertile under the broody (fugly) and 2 in the incu at 2 weeks and boy where those 2 mad i put a light under em....not holding my breath but i am so crossing fingers
