American serama thread!

well as of last week all of my breeder are sold out and I have lot of young ones coming up getting ready for the june show that should be really nice ... hope jake bring some of those young ones with him ... I can wait to see the update on the black malay project that he is working on ... type is first ... over everything else ... A great breeder once told me it doesn't matter what leg color the seramas come in , it could be purple for all we care as long as type is good . I would use it in my breeding project any day .

Purple legs would be cool........

also if you havent notice all the typey malay birds have color legs and white ear lope ... which mean if we breed like what amy or edgar wants then we are going to breed the type out if you know what I mean ... I learn that those are the genes you would want in your breeding project cause those are the birds that will get you the type you want ... just a hint ...

When the Malay started breeding these birds they didnt care for color. They didnt care for legs color ... They just breed type on type and these little birds started popping up .. Tim has done that with the blacks and the white in just 3 year's .... It can been done in two to three generation does not take 5 to 6 if you know what to look for and what your doing .... I am following his recipes .. That is why my birds are more typey now then ever...

That is very interesting.

So what one thing do you choose for first, if you started with rather normal seramas, to get Malay in just a few generations?

Chaili u have some in your flock think about it ... Your start were so call pet qulity right cause of the green legs and ok type ... now take the best cockerel breed it back to the original hen... that will give u family of good cockerel... now if u take the best pullet breed it back to her dad u will make a family of good typey hen/pullets .... now u just made three family ... Just give that a try and see if line breeding will fail or does type get better in a few generation ... I am making as many family so I can play around a bit more but I am also line breeding haha ....that is why type is getting better .. that is the goal .....

Well, I might have to start fresh. I lost that original pullet New Years Eve. Sudden unexplained death.

I thought you didn't like line breeding?? What changed your mind?

speaking of the new forum and  lots of new features, did you all know about the "block" feature?

Here is a link to a thread on it.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/618726/wheres-the-blocked-list

Hold your cursor over the users name and on the drop down choose "block".    You won't see what they write any more, you will see something like a box that says blocked.

The main purpose was to keep yourself from getting into trouble when there is someone that constantly annoys you with there posts.  If you don't read what they write you won't be responding in a way that gets you into trouble.

So if I got tired of seeing Cathy's beautiful chicks or all of Froggies smilies, I would just block her and not see those posts anymore.  You can unblock them at anytime.

Just don't let curiosity get the best of you and it should make part of life a little less annoying.
:D

Lets see---the block feature---who will be first???????? ~~~~~~DONE! ~~~~~ LOVE IT! ;) =) :) =) :) =) :) :thumbsup
