American serama thread!

Well, I might have to start fresh. I lost that original pullet New Years Eve. Sudden unexplained death.

I thought you didn't like line breeding?? What changed your mind?

I wouldnt line breed if I did have enough or a lot of cocoapop family . I dont what just one or two pair so I made around 12 haha I will never run into a brick wall and ask for more birds ... I can make many more ... But you would have to breed alot and that is why in seramas if you want the type you have to breed alot of pair and family to get what you want ... and I have about the right amount of number that I can now line breed and not be afraid of defects and needing to add new lines later on...

They turned out better than I expected.

They came from good line and that was Jerry's line one of the best ..... But the genes are there just need to line breed a few generation thats all .... I hope you try again cause look like those birds have the right gene in them to throw out chicks like that ....

I will be home till the end of these month cause of chinese new year... I dont know why they call it that if most of the asian celebrate it and they are not chinese ...

So i need to have the camera ready! that should be fun!

love those new roos- what lotion and how do you comb them out? my little joe will sit and sleep while i work on those feather bits....

I use Aveeno baby lotion on their legs and combs, 'cause that's what I happened to have. And to get the icky feathers sheaths out, I use a fine flea comb for cats n dogs. It works well after a bath, as the water and soap soften those sheaths, and they'll come out easier.

Yay - welcome back! Pardon my hiatus - my father-in-law is visiting forever. LOL.
Also although I like the new look of BYC the layout is killing me. It keeps directing me to the learning center - you think it's trying to tell me something??
We're slowly building our new coops here. We had a snow storm blow in so progress is slow but it's going to be lovely once it's finished.
How is my baby rooster doing?

My seramas are being so patient with the nasty weather. I baked them pea cakes and fixed them up some scrambled eggs with spinach and peas. When my five year old got home from school he found the tub of eggs and stuffed a handful into his mouth. I told him it was for the chickens and he said, "Mmm! That stuff is goo-ood for the chickens!" Haha.

Anna - Cynthia told me that she feeds her little chickies ground up corn and watermelon for the first week or so of their lives and it takes care of the pasty butt problem. Mr. Schexnayder recommended finely ground bread crumbs - he said that dries them right up! Personally I give my chickies "butt cuts" as soon as they hatch out so their doodoos don't stick to their vents. Good luck!
I can't wait to make it back to the west side to pick through your flock, haha. I am going to start a Red Rooster Farms saving account LOL. My frizzled wheaton roo that you sold me last year is popping out some gorgeous typey babies. I will post a picture of Johnny for you when I can - he is a two month old frizzled wheaton boy who is looking way better than his daddy (type wise). I am so proud of him!

Did I mention that all of the birds I have gotten from you are SUPER FRIENDLY? Mr. Curly Bean is like a little kitty cat - he loves nothing more than to fall asleep on my lap and coo at me. He thinks he is still a baby so he whispers like "whur whur whur" when he's trying to peep for his mommy (ME!) and Jon thinks he is terribly spoiled. He calls him Mr. Mama's Boy. :)

Honey,my black tailed buff frizzled gal, decided to go broody. She looks very determined. She is sharing a nest with my smooth black tailed buff pullet, Amelia, and my black silkied pullet, Tat. Amelia keeps scooping their eggs out from under them and is hoarding them for herself. Tat scoops them back when they pop out under her tail. Tonka does not like the idea of going broody so she lays by them to dump her egg and let them do all of the work. They're so cute! I just love them. I can't wait to see their babies. The girls are in with a silver ginger Grady boy. Ideally I would stick them in with Buttons but he is being a tiny beast and the girls are terrified of him. :) They'd better buck up though because Buttons is super typey and I need some babies from him! This spring I am sticking him with all of my black silkied pullets whether they like it or not.

he is from Junes birds-and i am sure you could get one of his brothers...LOL! he is so darn cute- you can't be stressed around him..:) will send you a larger version- that would make a cool poster!:)
