American serama thread!

Im BACK!!! 48 hours and still no power. Huge snow storm. I just got the pc hooked up to generator. Gawd, I want my lights!
What a nightmare. I had several 100 eggs in the bator ready to hatch and the power went out Wed. I had to bring all eggs in from outside and all chicks. I lost several young seramas from outside because I didnt have heat. I have boxes all over the house. Got the generator going and then a few hours after it started it died. I was by myself with the kids and had to deal with it. I have had eggs in my pockets and shirt for 2 days now and most hatched. Today I went to get gas for the generator and left the hatching eggs by the fire and got home and my dog had a meal of hatching chicks. I wanted to kill him! I can read all byc stuff but cant reply with the new system on my phone so I could see what was going on. Im in the dark and its hard to see the keyboard so sorry if bad spelling. We are now told it will be tues. or wed. before power is back. I am going to check in later when needed. Hope all are well, safe and warm!

Holy Moly Anna!!! Pack em' in the car and DRIVE SOUTH!!!

My friend in Omak: I have a good half foot of snow here! We always have more snow than the people of Colville 'cause we're up here in the mountains. It's cooold! I was watching the news yesterday and I saw that the winter storm warning took effect for Omak too. Was crossing my fingers for you hoping there weren't any power outages. I put a good heater out there in the greenhouse and it has been staying about 70 degrees in there - that's warmer than my house. I have some air potatoes that I got from Mr. Schexnayer - I will plant them so they can grow with my purple Barbara Jackmanii clematis (which is blooming right now). The greenhouse is my home away from home - almost like a little tropical vacation. It keeps me cheery in the winter.
Our new coop will be insulated as well - they have to be in these parts! You're such a good chicken mommy for cooking for your babies. I bet they loved that! Mine dined on pears, apples, whole grain bread, and scrambled eggs today. We were celebrating our new arrivals - a GORGEOUS pair from Mr. Schexnayder. I cannot believe how friendly they are. The little roo (BigShow) loves to purr at my husband and the little girl (Oksana) loves to talk up a storm. They're so cute!!
Stay warm and be careful in the snow! Just remember that spring is right around the corner.

Congrats you have one of the best line ....

Jonnie I got eggs from my blue bar project and some chocolate bar ... I cant wait when they hatch next month ... I am hoping they have good type so I can send some your way .. Are you going to start up the 4-H up there ???? would be a great way to help the breed and bring more ppls in to love these little one... I should get about 40 of them next month ..

Last update of my cocoapop golden duckwing .... Now living in Gardena with a good friend ... I'm saying bye bye to all my breeders... I dont need them for the show ... I got their type in my flocks and now moving on ...

Ken - he is so beautiful! Lovely fan tail, nice upright chest, good earlobes, nice wing carriage - he is very pretty. You ought to throw some blue and some black girls in with him. I have been told that blue helps to get rid of red leakage in the plummage. You would have a perfect mottled - and some blue mottled too! Will be looking forward to seeing his offspring.
Mr. Schexnayder said that his cocoapops were 20+ ounces when he started and he has bred their size down to a maximum of 15 oz now. That proves that size does not matter as much as type and that you will have the size down in no time. I bet your mottled boy will throw some little ones for ya'.
I hope to see more of my birds look like yours! Your flock is very inspiring. Gorgeous!!

THANK YOU ... TO Jerry and Tim for your teaching and skill .. I have learn a great deal and how to breed for type over everything else .... I dont care for what amy or what Edgar wants ..We are helping the breed...

The chickie poos loved the cooked corn. Thanks. I am glad you have new babies and they are happy and doing well. We are going to be in Colville on 2/11 for Regionals Wrestling Tournament. If you are in town and want to say HI

stop by. Of course, it will be a Gym filled with sweaty stinky teenage boys. LOL....the price of being a "taxi mom of a wrestler".

Hmm I did talk to tim about this and I think you are right about the blue stopping the leakage in the hackle ... I will give that a try ... I have cocoapop in the 12 oz and I will continue to breed them down to about 6 or 7 for hens and 9 to 10 oz for rooster...

ok...since i am such a newbie- how do you get them to stand like that, my guys do it periodically, but not staying in the same place.... also, how do you keep their wing tips from shredding when they move around? Boaz actually drags his wings
