American serama thread!

Oh what a pretty boy! Love his pouty chest and vertical wing-set. Pretty colors too.

Okay all === I've just set eight more serama eggs from pampered poultry in the incubator. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm hoping for at least a 50% hatch this attempt. All eggs in at the same time so that lock down will be completely hands off --- no moving bigger peeps out while the small eggs are still going.
Thanks ...

hope you get lots of little ones

Im BACK!!! 48 hours and still no power. Huge snow storm. I just got the pc hooked up to generator. Gawd, I want my lights!
What a nightmare. I had several 100 eggs in the bator ready to hatch and the power went out Wed. I had to bring all eggs in from outside and all chicks. I lost several young seramas from outside because I didnt have heat. I have boxes all over the house. Got the generator going and then a few hours after it started it died. I was by myself with the kids and had to deal with it. I have had eggs in my pockets and shirt for 2 days now and most hatched. Today I went to get gas for the generator and left the hatching eggs by the fire and got home and my dog had a meal of hatching chicks. I wanted to kill him! I can read all byc stuff but cant reply with the new system on my phone so I could see what was going on. Im in the dark and its hard to see the keyboard so sorry if bad spelling. We are now told it will be tues. or wed. before power is back. I am going to check in later when needed. Hope all are well, safe and warm!

That sounds awful! It's been very cold here in Michigan, and snow has moved in, but overall we been very lucky so far this winter. Sorry about all the babies. Darn dog!!

I am so sorry to hear the power is still out. We routinely go through that sort of stuff with ice storms and in hurricane season. It's the one bad thing about living in a rural area -- everything is run by electric power. HATE IT! Someday if we can afford it, I'd like to go solar or some other "off the grid" system. Here's hoping you're back up and running before Tuesday!

Had to chuckle at the image of you hatching eggs in your shirt pockets though!

My friend in Omak: I have a good half foot of snow here! We always have more snow than the people of Colville 'cause we're up here in the mountains. It's cooold! I was watching the news yesterday and I saw that the winter storm warning took effect for Omak too. Was crossing my fingers for you hoping there weren't any power outages. I put a good heater out there in the greenhouse and it has been staying about 70 degrees in there - that's warmer than my house. I have some air potatoes that I got from Mr. Schexnayer - I will plant them so they can grow with my purple Barbara Jackmanii clematis (which is blooming right now). The greenhouse is my home away from home - almost like a little tropical vacation. It keeps me cheery in the winter.
Our new coop will be insulated as well - they have to be in these parts! You're such a good chicken mommy for cooking for your babies. I bet they loved that! Mine dined on pears, apples, whole grain bread, and scrambled eggs today. We were celebrating our new arrivals - a GORGEOUS pair from Mr. Schexnayder. I cannot believe how friendly they are. The little roo (BigShow) loves to purr at my husband and the little girl (Oksana) loves to talk up a storm. They're so cute!!
Stay warm and be careful in the snow! Just remember that spring is right around the corner.
