American serama thread!

Oh wow!! So cute!

I'd be happy if ONE of my eggs hatched. I don't think it's looking good. It looks like they're all dead except one, which looks stuck to the air sack and probably won't make it even if it made it a bit further along :( Just not working out at all!

I really hope Laura's eggs will be in better shape! I have some coming from her next week as well. I'm so heart broken these all died again

Good luck with yours!!!!
Oh no, I bet hers will do better becasue its so much closer to you. I can send you some babies if my hatch goes well :)

Oh, you're such a sweetheart! LOL, Nah, I wouldn't want to subject them to the traveling, but I do wish you all the luck in the world with your next hatch! I'll try again after Laura's, which I'm hoping will do well :D I knew the risks, though I'm bummed I lost, I know I'll try again

Hi all!

I am new to this thread but have had serama for about two years now. I started with a couple frizzled hens and now have several smooth hens, two roos (one smooth and one silkied) and a bunch of juveniles growing up. Hope you guys don't mind if I pop in now and then!
My 'Mini-Man'....silkied micro, and CROWLESS to boot.

Very pretty, almost a mille fleur color perhaps? They remind me of calico off shoots in my mille fleur cochin project pen. Love this top hen's expression!

A couple more that failed to grow up wheaten.

how do you prep your eggs for the bator? I let mine rest for 24 hours point down, then set them- that might be an issue- also, this is your home made bator? maybe it needs some tweaking?

Hi artsyrobin, I tested my thermostat hygrometer and it's very accurate. My bator is holding at 99.3 to 100 where the eggs are. I let them rest about 6 hours after arriving, pointy side down, as I also read not to wait too long as you can lose fertility. Then I set them pointy side down in the bator, and didn't turn for 2 days. Some of the air bubbles semi re-attached and some yolks looked stuck so I got nervous and started to turn them. I made a turner, it's very gentle, side to side, and that's what I've been doing, but last night I checked at day 5+ and only one looks like it's developing, and looks stuck to the air sack. The ones where I didn't see loose air sacks in the beginning, I don't know what was wrong there but they died, possible bacteria? As I see dark spots. I'm still being overly hopeful and have not removed any of them yet, but it's pretty obvious none of them are growing

except the one, which... I don't think will make it.

Hi guys. been gone a while and not going to even bother catching up, lol.

Charles and Percilla are still spoiled house chickens.

Some fun from Yesterday!

I also will be getting a second pair of Seramas, now! The roo is a really light Cocoapop, so is the hen, but I'm not sure I'd call it that. The roo is looking like a nice bird and the hen is adorable. She doesn't lay, but I'm hoping to show this pair regardless at a few small, local shows.
