American serama thread!

Lol only ok if you're laughing about him being a jerk! Lol
I am looking forwardto my pullet laying so I get some cute chicks!
It's the thought of a much smaller chicken ruining the hair do of a larger chicken just 'cause he's a trouble maker! He's a very cute jerk and doesn't want to be out-shined by another roo I guess

hello, i am new to this thread and certainly new to seramas. we started off with 1 serama hen, not knowing that she was the smallest breed of chicken and would definitely not be getting much bigger. her name is rosie, she is approximately 8 months old and has been laying "regularly" for about two months. i say "regularly" because we get maybe 4 eggs every two weeks. i have been incubating all her eggs since we got her a husband (singer) who is about 8-9 months old also. i know her eggs are being fertilized, they make it to about day 9 and sometimes to day 14. but i have yet to have one even make it to the hatch box. i also incubate silkies and ee's. am i doing something wrong here or are seramas just notoriously difficult to breed? the incubator temp stays pretty stable (considering the wacky weather here in so cal) at 99.5-100.5 and the humidity fluctuates from approx. 40% rh - 60% rh. it obviously goes higher when adding more water to keep it above 40%..... anyways. should serama eggs be higher temp or higher %rh or be the same as silkie eggs? some of my silkie eggs are the same size as the serama egg, and i have hatched some uber cute buffs out of them that are doing great with the "larger" birds. so i am not convinced it is the actual egg size. and my birds are healthy. no problems. wondering if anyone else encountered this problem. sorry if this issue has already been addressed here, i have searched but cannot spend as much time reading all the answers as i would like. also, i am trying to post 19 more times so that i can start posting classifieds for my silkies and ee's that i am being overrun with right now. (my incubator works great !!) thanks everyone ! :)
Gosh, I have no idea, except maybe they're both a little young and aren't producing viable eggs yet? Some say when they're really small, they can be infertile, but obviously that isn't the case there. Bad news for me, 'cause I wanted to try getting a few more Seramas via breeding the few I was able to hatch next spring, and knowing my luck....
This is what happens when you trust a Serama to stay where you put him (in the temporary holding enclosure outside) while you clean his cage. Alice escaped the holding pen, and walked through the open back door, where he was bokbokbokking in my dining room and living room, walking all over the place. LOL! He didn't want to be outside all alone, I guess. :D
He is 16 weeks old, BTW...still a baby. ^..^

Oh he is SO CUTE!!!! I wants to hug...........

I bought a trio of Seramas the other day from a very nice lady. She had to get rid of the roo, because of neighbor complaints, so let me have the pullets too as they are pretty attached. The smallest, I think is a micro. She just doesn't thrive, shivers, always fluffed up like she can't hold body heat. She eats, and drinks, but this gal is light as a feather. Does not hold her tail up ever. Her facial skin is ivory, and her beak is too (I would post a pic but I need a card reader for the new computer) . She is soo.. pale. She seems happy, just not healthy.I really don't believe this is illness or parasitic. The farm she came from was beautiful, immaculate, and all of her animals were the picture of health. She told me this pullet had always been like this, and so she catered to her. Do any of you have experience with micros? I know they can die early, but I would appreciate any advice.

welp, i got 4 free serama chicks, well over 1/2 serama. which thinking about it, it would be good in a way because when i get some purebreds, they wont be so inbred, am i right on my logic?

they are super small, but i guess they will be either a b,c or d size birds once full grown, they have the stance already coming, which is good, i need to work on taming them ^_^" i had to catch them with a net (now that was fun)

i got one silver birchin, one hatchery quality silver lace, and at least one cuckoo, i cant guess the other one, i know i got a one roo and that is the cuckoo :)

pics shall be put on tomorrow

Oh, I wish I could drop everything and go to shows like that, Sun Valley, sounds like so much fun! We have to get financially in a better place before we could do stuff like that though :( I hope it's a huge success!!!

miss heny, As I understand it, you really don't have to worry much about inbreeding with chickens. My understanding is that brother and sister combos are not good, will cause genetic trouble faster, but mother son and father daughter (geesh, that sounds sick) is a normal way to refine traits and can be continued for 30 generations or so. So unless your mixed birds have great conformation of type, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to use them in a breeding program (for show quality) On the other hand, I bet they'll be sweet and wonderful! Of course, what you have might have wonderful conformation and great assets to add to the line?!? I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see pictures!!!

yes, i will try to get some tomorrow (they are not the most tamest things XD) to me from looking that them they are pretty good qualities (i pretty much study the breed to were i can ramble off how they came in, the only color showable for APA or ABA show all the way to the sizes, scary? yes) the

okay, i got a few crappy in the cage pics, not the best but hopefully it should give you a idea :)

not the best, but i will get more tomorrow

the biggest is so small that he barely fits the pet walking think we got for a fuzzy lops that we are gonna give to some one because the thing attaches to the fibber
