American serama thread!

Oooh one of my serama eggs are hatching. I am glad I procrastinated on taking those 2 eggs out. They were due to hatch 4 days ago, my incubators run a little on the cold side at night. I have a hard time this time of year trying not to fry them. It will be in the high 70's to 80's during the day and freezing at night. So I decided it would be better for them to get cool then to get cooked. Anyway, hope the little thing hatches. It doesn't look like he is taking up very much of the egg. Which worries me, his momma is a small B and his daddy is a small A maybe a Micro on some days. I don't want them any smaller... maybe miracle grow will help. (kidding)

Congratulations! So glad you did leave them in the incubator! Wow, 4 days is a long time! I hope both hatch, or at least this one comes out ok!

catwalk, I didn't comment on your adorable little pair! So cute! I have one baby that's about a week old now, and has the blond color with dark brown odd stripes down it's back and a spot on it's head. I don't know what it'll look like in the end, but here are my 3 little ones now, and you can see how their feathers are growing in:

Kind of white tipped beige?

I think this one will end up solid black

This one looks a lot like Harry! Similar colors, but slightly different amounts. This one didn't have that chipmunk look Harry had.

This is Harry 2 days ago. Wonder what the color would be called?

You can't tell, but Harry is WAY bigger than the above 3 chicks!

I'm so jealous, how adorable. What I need right now are some chicks to obsess over.

Thank you :) Since I've had so few hatch, I'm seriously thinking of trying one more batch.... I don't really want to start over again with another batch, but I wanted a minimum of 8 birds, and only got 4 out of 3 attempts

I better go to bed before I go to ebay and buy something.. LOL

I understand how you feel. I've set about 20 or so Serama eggs in the past month. Out of those only 3 made it to lock down, most of the others were clear. I only have 2 hens laying but one pair isn't as fertile as I would like, you get maybe 1/4 of their eggs that actually begin to grow. My other hen is in with a cockerel and I haven't gotten a fertile egg out of her yet, I hope they start doing some business soon so I can hatch some frizzle babies.

My chick did hatch by the way, he is hanging out in the hatcher while we hope that he has a brother or sister to keep him company in the brooder. He is a tiny little thing, probably the smallest Serama I've had yet. My last lone chick didn't make it past a week, so cross your fingers for me to hatch at least 1 more chick.

but I am only on day 10. Congratz on your little one...maybe he is a Micro? I suppose you will be crushing food for a while for him. Please post pictures if he makes it. I am a rookie at them and would love to see them as they progress.

Around Monday my first ever batch of Serama eggs will be arriving. I am so excited to try it out!! Hopefully, now I'll finally get a few more gals for Fred & Barney. One can only hope

Froggieheins: Thanks for the great Micro input. I will take your advice, and post an update when I see some results.

I set 41 eggs over the past month and got 6 chicks. One just hatched yesterday and we are on day 22 with the other 5 eggs. Last week I won an auction on ebay and today day 7 I had to throw away 10 of the 15 that arrived. Either BR's or ND. Out of the 5 left only 1 looks real promising. The weather here in FL has been very cool and with the swinging temps I have a feeling this will be my last attempt at hatching Serama's this year.
