American serama thread!

He is all fluffed up now. Doesn't look that small but he is. Still no signs of the other eggs hatching

He is the size of my coturnix quail chicks!

Yaaay, Pinx, he/she's so pretty and tiny! Congratulations! Will keep my fingers

for a sibling! If his mama and daddy are fertile, small is GOOD! Sweet!

Oh good luck Lunar on your eggs! I hope they all hatch, but 5/6 is really good already!

gardeningmama, I hope they'll arrive safe and sound! And that you too will have lots of success with them!

I dunno brookhavens, I'd at least give all of them a chance? Unless BR means broken? What is ND please?

kukupecpec, I'd think that if you had a broody, it'd be best to use her, but if no broody, no choice, eh?

You all have such adorable little chicks!!! Do you use your hens? Or do you use an incubator? I really want little baby seramas!
I have used both. I prefer to use a hen (a reliable one like my silkie hens) because I don't have to worry about them. Just check on them the day they are due and take them all away when they are done hatching. I also leave one of the hen's own eggs in the batch so when I take the serama she still has a baby to take care of and could care less I took all the extras. All of my hens in my outside flock were killed by dogs defending their babies so I have no choice but to use an incubator until their babies are broody age.

When I used a hen I had 5 out of 6 hatch, So far with the incubator this month alone I have 1 chick hatched out of 20 something eggs, might have 2 chicks... we will just have to see if the one in lockdown that is still alive makes it out.

Thanks, I actually wish his parents were a little bigger. His daddy is borderline Micro so I have a very low fertility rate with their eggs and they are my best looking pair. I really need some chicks from them that are fertile and lay a decent amount of eggs a week.

BR means blood ring and ND is no development. This batch of eggs look like they had a very rough trip through the postal system. Detached air cells in a lot of them.

Hi miss heny.
welcome-byc.gif
to BYC American Serama thread! Your birdies are SO CUTE but they are NOT show quality seramas.. I hope you do not take offense at my bluntness I am not trying to be mean at all. Love your new birds for what they are>>sweet and huggable darlings! and research the serama breed to find out for yourself what physical traits make-up the Serama. You can get tons of info on the American Serama Association thread about Standard of Perfection of the serama. http://www.americanseramaassociation.org/ I will get off my soapbox now....

i understand :) i have been studying the breed for who knows how long (over a year, maybe 2 forgot XD) the big i notice with the pics too that i was holding them, which made their tails go down, in the face without me touching me their tail set is somewhat high, but *sadly* i dont have a spot that i dont need to worry if they fly off, that they would be killed :/

i am thinking of getting some SQ seramas tho, i would LOVE to get a silkie serama
