American serama thread!

Quote: OH yes please do show us what you come up with! I would love that! I have 3 large roosters with my big ladies outside and thankfully only one crows, but boy is he loud, and I'm pretty sure the corner of the neighbors house that is closest to him is the bedroom of one of their young daughters! No need for her to get up at 5am. And boy he doesn't let up! He crows like every 20 seconds until about 10 and then he only crows every minute.... what a brat.

ALRIGHT GUYS I locked down last night!!!!

I'm going to try this again... lol. I've got 5 eggs of the 16 or so original still left after last night's final pull of the clear ones. 3 look promising. Keep me in your wishes!!!! I finish the brooder this week (which I promise to post pictures of because I'm very proud of it - from an old dresser the neighbors tossed out on the street haha) but they will be kept inside in the old rabbit cage for a couple weeks until I know I can keep a good hot temp steady outside in this freezing weather.

Longshot post, but looking for someone who might be missing a serama in the city of Ventura. Found in the Ondulando area.
I'm just GUESSING serama, because this bird is so tiny and has a big beautiful tail. Barely the size of a pigeon.
Only looking for the original owner at the time- Maybe if you can contact me describing the missing bird, or the number on it's green leg band; I'll let you know where you can come and pick it up.

If I don't have any luck finding the owner, I will put it up for adoption- This one is way to little for our rowdy flock.

Thanks!

did you find the owner? i can pass the info on to a few folks

Lol, thanks guys. I wanted "friendly", and guess I got what I asked for. Hopefully when his ladies mature he will redirect his affections to them. My hand must be attractive to poultry, I had the same problem with my call duck drake last year too.

That's cute about the leghorn, mine is slightly evil and has super long spurs, and she's a hen. I don't think she's impressed with my little bantam roosters, and has decided as one of the few large fowl around here she had to step up and be the man, lol.

I love these birds, I have had budgies before, have had friends with parrots, so that's the extent of my bird knowledge but to me, these "simple" chickens are by far the best birds ever! Who would have known?

LOL, when watching my cockerels, I feel like it's an involuntary thing?! Like they can't help themselves and don't really think about it?

Big hatching vibes are coming your way with fingers, toes, legs and jpzok er... arms crossed!! XXXXXXXXXXX

I have a question for you Tim,

Since everyone knows about the story of these seramas, it's been told many times, yet there is no way to get a different bird imported anymore. And those of us here love our birds which we are calling seramas, what is the point you are trying to make. Would you like us to kill our birds? Would you like us to rename them? Actually we DID rename them, they are called American Serama now. What point, what goal have you for arguing this topic? I don't think a single person has said you were absolutely wrong (though you have accused us of being wrong, stupid and duped) and some of us think there is a probability that Jerry was sent simply badly conforming or mixed blood seramas. I'm not so sure that wasn't the case, and frankly don't care.

I will look at your post in reply to this, and it will be my last time. So please, What is your point, what do you hope to achieve. What is your purpose in posting here?

I would like to know how a blog, with no factual sources sited, is supposed to be a reliable source of information. I could make my own blog, call myself an authority on serama, and post something completely different.

Since we supposedly have "kapan", and according to everything I read serama are a fairly recent composite breed made of japanese bantams (chabo), kapans, and a silkie feathered bird, then if I were to put my "kapans" with my japanese, and my silkie mix hen would I have authentic serama?

If we call the Serama, American Serama than don't see a problem. If someone wants to breed for the true look of the original Serama then go for it. They can be called Exotic or Old World Serama then.
As a dog shower for many yes in the past a lot of the dogs that are shown today don't look a whole lot like the original breed from the old country. Sad fact but that is what Americans do.
