American serama thread!

If this isnt a serama...then im just going to let them raise their young and if anyone wants to buy a really cool small chicken...then i will have some to sell.

If not...i like them and will just keep them for my enjoyment and for the eggs to eat.

I have really cool small chickens too! I think we should just request to rename the thread, "The Ayam Kapan, Imposter American Serama, Smallest Chicken in The World, Or Whatever The *#$! You Wanna Call your Bird Thread". I think I covered it all.

Genetically, the birds would be very different. If you took a serama made from our Kapan imports and bred it sometime in the future to a true serama, the resulting offspring would not retain type.

I have heard these inaccurate arguments before but that does not change the fact that Kapans, not serama, were imported. We may be building a breed, a somewhat lookalike bird to the serama, but it certainly is not a serama. I have looked at pictures in this thread and have not seen "serama", only Kapan. I am not the only one saying this. Serama John has been to Malaysia and seen the US stocks first hand. He has several article stating that we do not have true serama here. Again, I wellcome your pictures of your birds for comparison.
Its been a few days since I have been online (so excuse me if I am beating a dead horse) but must comment on this, Here is my beloved SERAMA Clyde many of you have seen his pictures before.

If he in his NATURAL state looks like Kapan to you I would very polietly ask you to go have your eyes examined then take another look.

Junebug, I see you're on here reading all of this hub bub. As a breeder would you like to weigh in on the subject?

Do you think I'm CRAZY!!! I know when to keep my mouth shut.....but since you asked.....I don't think that the 'name' or 'label' that we call something by is all that important. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. The 'American Serama' is nothing like the 'Malaysian Serama'. Even the 'Traditional Serama' is nothing like the 'Malaysian Serama'. And that's all O.K. with me...doesn't bother me....keeping in mind that this forum is partially show people and partially pet people, we sometimes have friction when we forget that we all have different goals. We're on this forum to enjoy our birds and each other. We need to tolerate our differences and share the things we do have in common. It does bother me that I see a lot of pet quality birds being touted as 'quality birds', but since this is not a 'show forum' so its O.K. to let it pass.
