American serama thread!

If you need to buy a hygrometer this is the one I use. Fairly cheap and can be calibrated: Hygrometer I like using an analog one because there are less parts inside that can be damaged by all the moisture. All the digital ones I have used eventually start to read wrong. The digital display will add/subtract lines to numbers (Instead of the number 3 It will look like an 8 or 9 will look like 7, for ex.)

Yep, my LF chicks all hatched a full day early last hatch, and I'm convinced it was the therm/hygro. I always run at lower temps to be safe, so a day early hatch means something isn't reading right. Gonna replace both before I set the Easter Hatch eggs.

Thank you. And these are Serama eggs? What an excellent hatch if they are, if not, that's still an excellent hatch. Did you go buy a hydrometer too put in there? I'm contemplating if I should or not for the Serama eggs. If you couldn't already tell, this will be only my second time ever hatching... And first time ever hatching Bantams. I've had them before, just never hatched them. I got the incubator for Christmas and set some eggs about 2 weeks ago that are going into lockdown Monday. I'm very pleased with the incubator so far - 7/7 eggs are developing great.

Yeah, they were Serama. It was a 100% hatch rate. I was pretty shocked. That's why I've been selling some of the chicks. I was just testing the fertility of the eggs, not expecting much. I hadn't had any luck hatching them in the past, but I made a new pairing and thought I'd see if that improved things. I guess I have a good genetic combination now!

I don't have a hygrometer in there. I just kept one of the water wells filled most of the time, until the hatch, when I filled them both up.

What is strange for me is that I only have had luck with Silky and Serama eggs. Out of the 11 viable eggs I had only 3 didn't hatch and it looked like they died in day 18.[ Those full size eggs I have little to no luck!] I just have that LG bator and humidity is 20-30 until I crank it up to 50-60 for the hatch. I had so much trouble keeping the temperature even I thought for sure they would all die but no. Dumb luck maybe?

cluck-cluck, could you please post pics of your birds standing naturally without diapers? I'm trying to understand the whole Serama-growth compared to other birds as I'm planning on showing mine and some pics of yours at their age would help me better. BTW, I love your roo! He is gorgeous.

I'm so sorry I didn't get this done today :( I was coughing all night and got no sleep, so after doing chores today, I fell asleep 'till it was time to get the kids, then had to do other errands and now it's dark :( Will get it done tomorrow! I also have 2 chicks that will be 7 weeks old on Sunday. I'll try to get nice pictures of everyone. My birds are obviously not show quality, just so you know :)

HI,
I still cannot get pic's up grrrrrrrrrrrr
And really want to .I need some help with colors.
Other than that.just having fun waiing for babies......
Had a hen go broody so pulled the eggs from the incubator and gave to her........
Day 7 .,I think...........

Have been working on breeding pens...........I'll let you know if they work out.
Size 2x2x2.............

Fuzzybird.you know your area better than I do so perhaps your humidity is coerrect for your location.
I run my humidity a little higher and wonder if this could be having an affect on your LF hatch.
I run about 35 to 40 in the beginning ...never let it drop to 20. and about 65 for lockdown.
Hope you have better luck next time...
