American serama thread!

How long does he need to stay alone? I don't want to depress him.

I would treat him like he's in quarantine. Any time a chicken dies, I treat it like they might have something that could be passed around, just in case. I might be doing overkill. Seramas seem to just drop dead from non-contagious things, too, so it could be nothing to worry about. I guess it just depends on what you feel comfortable with...

So we had a sad day today. I went out to feed this morning and Belle had passed away. She was all ruffled up and sitting in a corner looking quite comfortable. Does anyone have any ideas what to do about her mate Taco?
It was just the two of them alone in a coop, Taco fights with the big birds so we had them separated. I have Turtle and Elena but they are still quite a bit smaller than him and young. Turtle is very feisty and I'm sure he and Taco will get into it as soon as they get the chance. I brought him inside this evening and he seems glum. Definitely not as rambunctious as usual.
Poor Taco, he needs some new friend to focus on.

I noticed yesterday that the seramas I defiantly want to sell are 3 silky seramas. One I am sure is a roo. The others look more towards hens. If you want them I don't mind throwing in another smooth hen at the terms we discussed.

Can't believe it's almost been a week since the first Serama hatched! Looks like he's not going to be a frizzle, but that's okay.

Here's Raine:

I had to help Raine hatch. She got stuck during zipping.

And now, for Stormy... He is quite the character. He hatched out of the frizzle egg from the pen with a frizzle hen.

And of course, both of them:

They are feathering out real cool - looks like Stormy is going to be a light blue, and Raine is feathering out with dark brown wings and light brown. Love these babies!

Well Taco has been inside since last night. My husband wasn't too pleased by the 5am wake-up crowing, but after the first crow I grabbed him and pulled him under the covers with me and he went back to sleep haha. Looks like he's just going to be my little house chicken buddy until the other Serama are big enough to live with him. He's gotten MUCH better about wearing his diaper too! He can run all over my room and jump a few feet in the air to get where he wants to go with it on.

I tried to take some! but my phone was dying. Here's what I got though!!! Not used to having him diapered all day so I ran out of clean ones for him, he's wearing one of Belles so the neck strap is a little short - jerry rigged with a piece of yarn, works! But I'll be converting all of hers into Taco sized ones tomorrow.
This is where he sleeps. He picked my textbooks as a perch. RIGHT next to my head too, good thing he's a sound sleeper!

Oh no!!! Man what a crappy start to the week, I'm really sorry about Cleo!

he is a beauty!

yeah- yesterday was not one i want to repeat, lost my silky pullet in the morning to a head injury and then Chloe last nite- still clueless on her, she was fine day before- but thin- i noticed that
