American serama thread!

Yeah! We just got, not only our first ever serama egg, but out first ever any ind of egg. It was like a magic present in the box! Amazing! They must not be doing too badly, then. Laying eggs is a good sign, right? Here it is, next to a teaspoon, for perspective. It is sooo awesome! And it's pink! Are they usually pink?

I may be a tad excited....

Where did you get it from? I don't think hatcheries have serama, so if you got it from one of them or a feedstore, it's probably not a serama.
I will never buy a bird from a feed store and I do have so Japanese and Serama's but the look so a like I can't tell them a part but it looks like it has to long of legs so I don't know I thought it was a Serama but I only have Japanese blacks :)???

Maybe a mottled serama then, lol. Mine start out different looking, but since they are all colors anything is possible. Breeding short legged to short legged japanese will still make 25% long legged chicks, but if you only have black then it must not be them.

I mark all my eggs, and don't set similar breeds to hatch together so I am 100% my chicks are what I think they are, makes it much easier if I want to sell them, lol.

If you only have Japanese, then what you have there is a Japanese, not a Serama. Your black birds must have some hidden genes that you don't know about, cause their chicks to be all different colors.

Congratulations on your egg...........Never had a pink yolk.I'll bet it will change.
Also...They will come around with time............I think they are kind of sensitive little buggers..........
I had one guy terrified of us so I picked him up every time I went to feed and carried him cradled in my arm while I worked.
He just stands and waits for me to pick him up now............just a sweetie..........and talks to me all the time.............
Should have named him chatter box

Mine love bread as a treat.....I will hold it and wait them out until they finally give in and take it from my hand.
Happy for you that you have Seramas.....................
