American serama thread!

We built a new breeding pen for the Seramas this weekend. They certainly are enjoying the extra space.

Also, last night I realized how similar Raine and Ash are, even though they come from whole different lines. Raine's just a little but darker, it's kind of odd.

My eggs came in today

, they sent 1 extra so now I have 7 eggs from Watson Ridge Ranch. She shipped yesterday and box arrived in perfect condition today. Eggs were WELL wrapped. I am going to allow them to set for 2 days before putting them in with the other 16 eggs I got from the guy up the road. They also sent one extra Silke egg, so will put 7 of those in at the same time. Wow, Silkie eggs are like giants next to the Seama eggs

I hear a faint peeping in my eggs on day 18. I quickly checked the ones I suspected to break the air cell but I saw nothing? What do you guys think?

I put my eggs in lockdown day 17 because I saw the ones I suspected wiggling. I know peeping in day 18 is freaky... I had similar results with my bantam cuckoo maran eggs.

My temps with the BCM and the serama eggs are/were 102 deg and 40 - 50%

I just won an auction for 6 Serama eggs from Watson Ridge Ranch! They are "up the road" from me about a 2 hour drive. Anyone know about them? So excited! The other person that I got the eggs from that is right up the road (10 mins), was supposed to give me just 12 but he was mean and gave 16

. I put those in the bator yesterday, should have the ones from Watson Ridge by the end of the week.

The Watson pictures also FORCED me to bid on some Silkies which I won. Never thought I would have little chickens, but hoping it works out. If not, I won't be to upset since I was not planning on going with small chickens, but if it does I will be so happy, so will my DD. She is a chicken lover like me. Always wants to pick up the bigger girls, would be nice to have a little one for her to snuggle. I guess time will tell! Thanks a lot guys for getting me interested in Seramas

Need to get working on the pens. I have some that will work but they are to close to the LF pens, so I want to put some just for them on the other side of the property so I have a chance at letting them free rang.
Dawn and Ashley (Watson Ridge) have amazing birds! You won't be disappointed in babies from them. I have eggs in my incubator right now from their birds, which are due to hatch Saturday :D

Congratulations on your hens, larps! So glad your girl is no longer alone!

Well, I haven't gotten around to posting pictures of my babies yet, so here they are. Well, here is a sampling! One of the biggest things I love about these birds is that you get all kinds of colors, it's amazing! Here is a sampling of the colors I got :)

This is my blackest one, and s/he is so striking, I don't care, I'm keeping him/her! LOL

Tuxedo beauty

I got some that are super dark brown, not black, and they have brownish yellow bellies! Wonder what they'll look like all grown up???

Orangy yellow

Very pale yellow (cute shot, no?)

Yellow chipmunk

Yellow with brown spot and a few blackish spots on head??

All together I have 12 babies so far with Hermione still on one egg, that may not make it as it's been through a lot. Last I looked it was alive but it may not hatch. I can't wait to see how they feather out!
CUTIES!!!

Well, I lost one yesterday. I was busy and hadn't noticed that the water emptied itself. I still don't understand what happened, i guess it was at an angle and I think some shavings drew the water out of it? Anyway, one was dead on the floor (not the little one with the leg problem) and I'm so bummed! A nice healthy bird gone! At least the others are all right. I refilled the waterer right away and the little ones gathered around it to drink like peeps lost in the desert :( I felt so bad

So far today, they all look ok. I'm still waiting for one egg to hatch from Hermione. It really was put into the mix late! But it should hatch soon. I hope it's large and robust so it can go with these week olds without much trouble!

Happened to me too. it may be because of a thick layer of wood chips in your brooder. it tilts the watering dish every so slightly. it could have been pouring out slowly hours before you noticed it ):
that or all the chicks stood on one end!
