American serama thread!

Oh yah, one of my babies has a slipped tendon. I keep stretching back the leg and massaging, twirking it in place and then stretching it by bending that joint closed again. I think it's getting a little looser, but will it eventually stay in place? Right now, as soon as I let the baby go, it pops it back out for a more comfortable, but unusable position. I'm hoping if I spend enough time with the chick doing this, it'll get better. Anyone else go through this? I'm afraid when I make a splint, that the tendon falls off anyway since I can't see it, plus s/he is so small, it's hard to get it right.

Would love to hear from anyone that has had success reattaching the tendon?

I have done it with a coturnix quail chick. Take a band aid and cut the adhesive part into a thin strip and wrap it around both legs. Adjust the length of the strip so that the legs are at the proper distance apart for walking normally. Leave it on until the bandaid runs out of stick and falls off.

Got my babies from Laura at Cast Delight Seramas!

The babies in the tree since I couldn't get them to stay still.

Another pick of the babies in the tree.

Them sleeping in their purse.

I gave them the front seat on the drive home. Drove a little distracted.

Another pic of them in the car.

Them in the grass for the first time.

New to this thread. I just started with seramas this yeat. My first pair is now 7 weeks old Carlitos and Guadalupe. Then 3 weeks ago I hatched little Evil , who was the only one to hatch from an order of shipped eggs. Because she was alone I felt sorry for.her and put in a newborn quail who she promply dragged off the water dish by the leg. So I took yhe quail out. I tried little Evil in witj some wrek old pullets and she bit their yoes so I topk her out when they retaliated. Next I tried her with my "big,,," seramas and the same thing happened plis she squeezed through the cage nars and spent the night pooping on my livingroom . I eas running out of places to put her when 3 little ducks hatched. She liked the ducks but more so their water pool, so out of the duck brooder she went. Finally I just hatched 8 littleseramas and I held my breath and put her in their brooder. So far they seem to yhink she is mamma serama and cuddle up under her wings. So happy little Evil found a home.

That sounds more like for spraddle leg though? My chick's tendon is slipped off from where it should be. We wrapped it after setting it, but I can tell it's slipped again. I guess we have to redo it again??! There is this tiny stringy thing under the skin at the "hock" joint that should sit in the middle of the bone, but it's slipped to the side causing the leg to stay bent and the chick can't use it. With it wrapped up though, he can get around a lot better, still, I don't think it's properly set at the moment...
HI, I know I've been gone a while, but I have a question:

One of my ladies has gone broody, which is great, but our family is also about to move. Is there any way to keep her from abandoning her eggs in the process of moving her to the new house?
Well, how far is the move? My girl let me move her a few times around the house and stayed on her eggs (still has one egg that hasn't hatched yet, and I don't know it's age! I hope it hatches soon, but so far no interior pipping yet (though it's a live) I'm gonna stop looking at it, LOL, Anyway, even with me poking around, taking away her chicks as they hatched last week and picking her up to see what's going on under her, she hasn't left her nest. Only one time when the boys (LF roos) scared her, did she leave her nest, I put her back and she settled right back down. Same seems to be happening with my LF leghorn who is on a batch of eggs as well.

So anyway, I think chances are pretty good that if you're just going across town or something, it won't bother her. She'll settle right back on her nest???
he's really big his name is Chester I got him Saturday with a frizzle I don't have a pic of he's really sweat but hard to catch lol
He's very handsome and seems to know it, LOL
he can fit in my hand he is so small he is so cute he fallows me every where by far he's my favorite bird

Little evil, that's just too cute! Funny, I got a single Serama to hatch my first try, and it was alone for a few days, then I put her with LF chicks from a hatchery a few days later, then my second batch of Seramas hatched a few weeks later, and I knew I wanted the Seramas to be together, so after the smallest ones were about a week old, I tried putting her in with them, and to my surprise, she was also like little mommy to them! Too cute!

That is one of the forms of spraddle, but not what I had thought you'd described before. Use some vet wrap to wrap it and it will stay better. The stringy thing is the tendon and it will eventually go back into place. Keep it wrapped so that it can walk and take the wrapping off twice daily to bend the leg and keep the tendon supple.

Ah, Ok. This is good info for me, knowing that if the tendon keeps slipping, it'll eventually get better! I am doing just as you've said :) Hopefully this little bugger who is quite spunky, will get all better and actually be a GIRL!! LOL
