American serama thread!

I just won an auction for 6 Serama eggs from Watson Ridge Ranch! They are "up the road" from me about a 2 hour drive. Anyone know about them? So excited! The other person that I got the eggs from that is right up the road (10 mins), was supposed to give me just 12 but he was mean and gave 16

. I put those in the bator yesterday, should have the ones from Watson Ridge by the end of the week.

The Watson pictures also FORCED me to bid on some Silkies which I won. Never thought I would have little chickens, but hoping it works out. If not, I won't be to upset since I was not planning on going with small chickens, but if it does I will be so happy, so will my DD. She is a chicken lover like me. Always wants to pick up the bigger girls, would be nice to have a little one for her to snuggle. I guess time will tell! Thanks a lot guys for getting me interested in Seramas

Need to get working on the pens. I have some that will work but they are to close to the LF pens, so I want to put some just for them on the other side of the property so I have a chance at letting them free rang.

Hi everyone,

Got my DSL set up so practicing with pic's.As you can see,an Orp, a RR and a little serama..
Have 8 in the Incc.......
More to come =)
Awww, that's just too cute!!!

Got a new Serama hen today. She's super friendly, I've only had her for a few hours and she eats mealworms out of my hands. My rooster is strutting up a storm trying to impress her.
Wish I could see that, I love the way the boys make fools out of themselves over the girls!

How can the girls resist? They're just too cute, and I adore you lovely new hen, she is beautiful!

Killer and her chicks
You named your Serama hen Killer? Really? That's just the funniest thing I heard today!

Too cute!

What do you guys incubate your serama eggs at? I talked to Laura of Castle Delight Seramas and she said 55% days 1-18 and 75% for lockdown has worked for her so far.
This last batch, I misplaced my hygrometer so I just went by surface area, LOL. I had a container about 35% of the cooler-bator's floor area for the first 18 days, then at lockdown I poured in water to about 90% of the floor area from which it shrank a bit. They were only in there a day or so as they hatched early. I say about 90% because the floor is sloped and I didn't fill it up so much as to quite hit the vertical side.
I got my eggs from Castle Delight Seramas here in Oregon, so they only had to make a 2 hour drive to get home :)
Lucky you! Most of my Seramas are from her, and Bhep, whom I got my others from, said hers are from Laura also! So that would make only one of mine from a 3rd ultimate party, LOL. I adore my babies, and they're not too bad for type, though Sirius' tail is a bit too low, his stance is very vertical and his wings down straight plus he has a lovely puffed out chest! Luna has great type all 'round.

I think you'll really like them! Although, I do love the big hugs from the big birds, the snuggles from these extremely friendly little guys is arguably better! Just don't tell my LF that I said that, LOL

Today we go around to building a new breeding pen for my Seramas - it's a 2x4, so it's the minimum of 2sq ft. per bantam. Of course, I plan on letting them outside a few hours each day so they won't be locked up all the time.

Congratulations on your hens, larps! So glad your girl is no longer alone!

Well, I haven't gotten around to posting pictures of my babies yet, so here they are. Well, here is a sampling! One of the biggest things I love about these birds is that you get all kinds of colors, it's amazing! Here is a sampling of the colors I got :)

This is my blackest one, and s/he is so striking, I don't care, I'm keeping him/her! LOL

Tuxedo beauty

I got some that are super dark brown, not black, and they have brownish yellow bellies! Wonder what they'll look like all grown up???

Orangy yellow

Very pale yellow (cute shot, no?)

Yellow chipmunk

Yellow with brown spot and a few blackish spots on head??

All together I have 12 babies so far with Hermione still on one egg, that may not make it as it's been through a lot. Last I looked it was alive but it may not hatch. I can't wait to see how they feather out!
