American serama thread!

I am so sorry for your loss it must have broke your heart. I am sure someone near you may have some. I am still looking for a breeder in Il or I would even drive a couple hrs to find a gentle small pullet to go with my Gabby. She needs a friend.

Remember this chick?

WOW! Great job chicken MAMA! :love

Hello Serama lovers. I am researching tiny breeds for my daughters 8 and 5. They are both doing 4-h. WE have a D'uccle who is wonderful and does the 4-h thing like a champ. My 8yo really wants a whole flock of tiny chickens so we tried hatching a clutch of Olandsk Dwarfs (a rare breed from Sweden) and ended up with 7 boys and one girl. The girl is sweet once she is caught but is a bugger to corner and catch. We love the look of the Seabrights but I've read that they are really wild and not good for kids. Can some of you share your experiences with the Seramas? Would they be a good choice for my girls. And if there are other breeds you like please feel free to share. Thank you all so much in advance for all your wisdom!

That's 3 votes for that. I'm going to weigh them and post a better pic here and on the bantam/d'uccle threads... :) Hopefully they don't point me back here again... But it sounds like if they aren't under 10oz they aren't serama or d'uccle. They seem tiny to me, but I haven't taken all their vitals.

NOTHING beats the Serama for friendliness and ease of handling! [I am biased tho ;) ]
I know some of the criteria for 4-H showing. For showmanship Seramas are bar none!
The only color however that is accepted by ABA/APA for in cage judging is white at this time.
There is a breeder of seramas in WA state right here on BYC; RedRoosterFarms. She has alot of whites.
This is a list of other bantam breeds recognized by ABA/APA.

2nd in line are Nankins, they are also very friendly and docile.
After that it is OEGB, which can be docile to skittish, depending on the breeder and/or lines. Seabrights & black rose combs tend to be skittish.
MORE INFO, just ask..LOL
