American serama thread!

Well giving up and throwing the seramas in with my assorted bantam flock seems to have worked. Today I saw my frizzle serama roo courting for the first time. It was a cochin hen but at least he is trying.

Congratulations! My advise is to allow the eggs to rest a day or so before placing them in the incubator after shipping. Also, I learned the hard way that some automatic turners are too rough on delicate little serama eggs and I prefer hand turning. Lastly, be prepared to have your heart stolen by the tiny wonderful little fuzzies that hatch out!

Thanks for the advise, the one I have doesn't have a turner, im so nervous I will do something wrong. But this seems to be the only way to get more of these babies. I posted pics of my 5 seramas

I have a question for everyone....I had my entire flock together in one big coop thru the winter...6 hens and 3 roosters....all the hens started laying about the same time and I was getting LOTS of eggs...I filled an incubator up and after 14 days checked them and none of the eggs were developing...I tossed them and started over....same results...then I decided that there were to many roos in the hen house and removed the two younger roos...I also decided to let the hens set on the eggs...they hatched out 16 of 25...my question...can there be to many roos in the hen house?
Sometimes hens and pullets will submit to specific roosters, and sometimes if hens are being grabbed by young feisty roosters they will be less willing to submit to have their eggs fertilized. It was a good choice to remove the extra roosters. Sometimes younger roos are also less experienced at getting their business done and they fumble all around and don't get the job done, or the hens will protest and will try to escape, which could deter fertility. Two hens to each rooster isn't enough when they are all together and the hens could become exhausted. If I have multiple roosters together I try to keep 10 - 15 hens to each rooster. So, in my opinion, I do think that there were probably too many roosters in the roo - hen ratio. Congratulations on your hatch and good thinking!

This is my newest serama Molly, she is really tiny! I believe she is a blue.
She is a very pretty blue gal!
