American serama thread!

I am looking to purchase a serama pair. Due to the colder weather I would like to pick them up. I live in western NC (Asheville area) so I am up for a drive as long as it is not too far away. I have searched around but have not found anyone nearby yet.

Chip was born on 10/04, jmcgee! His comb started to darken enough to notice at only 2 weeks, so he might be a little early on the crow boat. It is different for all roos, some start earlier than him, some have lost their chick voice before they start. Today I can see the tiiiiiniest of spurs getting ready to start showing, little button marks on his legs. Here are some photos from 3 days ago or so, he looks a little lopsided in the chest because he ALWAYS stuffs his piggy crop full: I would weigh in on the sexing of your babies, but I've only got two chickens right now, so I don't think I've got the experience to say. The light mottled one doesn't scream roo to me, but if they are in the brooder with mega-roo there in the first picture their development might be a little supressed.
he is so cute! My main boy is the meanest of all the boys. But still friendly. I may not keep him because of that. His comb was super red early on too. So he may start early also!

There are quite a few peeps somewhat near you on this thread. Also try Ra_ OR theron for seramas.

Try posting in the Tennessee forum. In NC i know of only @Bhep (Beth) who owns seramas. I checked on google maps and she is almost 5 hours away from you :( she lives in faison NC. You can also try the north carolina forum on here or post an ad on craigslist, I'm sure there are a lot of closet serama owners around you.

Thank you! Chip isn't aggressive, he is just an only child. He pushes his limits sometimes and nips my fingers sometimes, but he is at the stage where he is challenging a hen who has more pounds on her than he has ounces just because he can. He hasn't kept crowing, but he did decide to tread my hand last night.. very embarrassing. He's just going through hormones, I suppose. Mostly he just wants to sit in the crook of my arm and be pet. He's still learning what being a good rooster entails, since he's a chick first and foremost and they are greedy and rambunctious!

Is yours only pushy to other chickens, or people too? People aggression I wouldn't keep, but chicken aggression... I'd let it play out, provided he isn't taking eyes. He's probably going to be top dog among the roos for the forseeable future, and usually the head rooster turns out to be much nicer to his ladies once he learns he has to have the hen's favor in order to have ease of permission for breeding with the max # of females. Might do the other boys some good to be separated from him, though, and could mean it is time to start splitting off in to pairs and trios.

can i seperate a breeding pair? my hen is laying but is running from my roo if he tries to breed her. she also isnt wanting to brood. she had 6-7 of her eggs and a random wyandotte x one and i want her go brood on them >·<
