Many hatcheries ship day old quail chicks.

But if the hatcheries get hold of Seramas, they would probably cross them with something to make them bigger so that they could ship them easier.

Yeah quail chicks are much more fragile than even Serama chicks. Serama chicks like other chickens have much more yolk reserve when born.

Quail chicks have to eat and drink almost immediately or they will get very weak.

X2 Even they do not fare as well as the larger breeds.

i think smaller breeds to be left to people like on here to sell or give away and hatcheries can have larger breeds. but even those they screw up BLRW are no longer full bred coming from hatcheries because they breed them with gold laced cochins in order to get faster feathering and more resilient birds

so true and such a shame. I do not understand how they can legally sell them as pure breeds.

It's a nice thought but there have been a lot of wonderful full sized heritage breeds that have been wiped out or all but wiped out by the chicken factories too. Look how few full sized breeds there are that haven't been stripped of their instincts, traits and broodiness.

cackle lied to us. they said and i quote "Specializing in hatching and shipping newly hatched pure-bred poultry to your local post office" my silkies are NOT full bred and if they are then they need to look at their breeder flocks. there needs to be a law that says the birds must be purebred not cross bred
