American serama thread!

Certainly easy to do as genetics seems to work differently for every case. I thought frizzle was recessive and… I guess not from all I've read and been told.
Yes, I am trying to learn more but, it just gets jumbled up

So, now I just try to remember the important stuff (don't breed frizzle to frizzle, etc.)

Adults? Chicks? Eggs? Smooth feathered? Silkied? Frizzle? Sounds like you'll have a fun weekend.
Adults... hopefully I buy one of each. I am looking to buy a silkied pair or trio, a frizzle hen, some smooth hens, and a nice small rooster

I am going to stop after that...right?

Ya…Sure…. Probably like I said I wasn't going to hatch any more eggs. I candled Pearl's eggs yesterday. She'd laid a tenth egg after starting to brood. Egg number one had died. The other nine are alive and growing. This time the chicks will be from a different rooster. YEAH…I think...

Me too. The dozen eggs I'm getting from you-I hope-and another batch from Frizzy with the different rooster. I want to see if her eggs do better with a new rooster involved.

They might do better. These new birds should be laying (a bunch of my girls aren't laying right now) and then I will test ther fertility and after that I should have some eggs for sale

Should the weather have a warm spell I'm open to buying eggs that have not been tested for fertility and, I assure you, if nothing hatches I won't be complaining. I do ask that any eggs that are sent be packaged at my specifications.

I am glad that you understand the risks. I am sure a lot of people who buy shipped eggs do not. I would be happy to ship them how you would like. That is not a problem for me, these are eggs for you that you are paying for. So, if you have specifications on how you would like them to be shipped I will gladly ship them that way.

The last, and only, serama eggs I had shipped hatched at 55%. From what I have read that is quite good for shipped eggs; part of the success, I think, is in how they were packaged.

Each egg was wrapped separately in bubble wrap then inserted in a small plastic cup (Dixie cup) rounded end up taped in. The "egg cups" were placed in a small box surrounded in more bubble wrap; packing peanuts would do as well. That box was placed in a slightly larger box surrounded with crumpled newspaper/bubble wrap/packing peanuts.

It was a real pain unwrapping the eggs, but none were broken and only one or two had an unattached air cell.

Let me know when you can ship. I do not like to use incubators, but I always seem to have one or more hens that are broody.

Hopefully, when you are ready, we can check the long range forecast and Mother Nature will help us out.
