American serama thread!

Most of them start out pretty small but they now keep growing for an entire year it seems.
I think that having a bigger abdominal cavity is altering the breed.
The tiny birds like Dorothy seem to start out not much smaller than the other birds,
they just stay tiny as they develop.
The year old hens lay huge eggs.

If you can, could you show a comparison picture to a normal store egg?

Porcupine:

Ok so I got my second egg from porcupine yesterday. This egg had a little blood on it so I'm thinking she might be younger then I first thought.,that could explain several things.

1) she is young and way down on the peaking order would help explain her condition.

2) her operatic nonconsistant laying

I have only ever seen blood on eggs coming from New layers.

Any thoughts?  Same for me.

** both eggs good size solid well shaped shell

I was looking at my frizzle hen close up the other day. The feather shafts on her wings and tail are very long. If they were to all start growing in like Porcupine they undoubtedly would look very similar to Porcupine's. Are any of those quills opening to normalish feathers?

Not yet

My hens have begun really pumping out the eggs.
They used to lay every other day but I've collected 2 dozen in the last 5 days.

I don't want the eggs to get old and I don't want my hens to start setting yet.
If anyone wants the 2 dozen, I'll send them all for $30, shipping included
or $20 for 1 dozen.

Should this happen again, please keep me in mind.

I'm going to let my hens begin setting again in April.
I may still sell some of the eggs but I probably won't have another surplus until Winter.
Probably can't afford it, but I'll ask anyway-How much do you sell your eggs for? Maybe some day in the future.

Amazing that birds so small come from such large eggs; really incredible. The one time I hatched large serama eggs (through ebay) the chicks all grew to be large birds. None looked like serama either.

I bought a pair of silkied seramas. So, in the first week of April I am going to set as many eggs as I can to get an accurate fertility rate. So I know will have a possibility of a silkied, smooth, or frizzled serama when I hatch.

Good luck, shahtir101, I hope you get many beautiful chicks and, all, the picture of perfection.

interesting... my Silkied hen seems to have a deep wide body, I wonder if she is from you... a while back, I know the person I bought her from hatched her but they all have this body type... Hmm...
I use broody hens; my incubator is for emergency use only. Conditions in an incubator are too hard to keep constant and that has caused a lot of disappointments over the years.
Yes, I have someone interested in birds and I also wanted to set an egg or two from the bird that I lost on monday, Egg was a few days old, Plus It was in the fridge, But I figured it was worth a shot. I have 9 in there
