K the more I read, I don't think the smooth babies will carry it because it is incompletely dominant ... then there are some modifier genes that really muck it up ... still reading though!

Okay, we just need to ask Sonoran Silkies on the Arizona Thread!!!
Here is her post on the issue and she has nice charts and everything. I'm still digesting it though!

She calls frizzle x frizzle offspring like Marilyn a "Curley" ... so here is her table and 100% of her chicks should be frizzle!!!

*from Sonoran Silkies post, link above*
CurleyXNon-frizzle 100% frizzle offspring

Oh, of course that assumes we have no frizzle modifier genes ... they can make a genetically frizzle bird look smooth. Stinkin modifier genes!!!

Yep, I have a curly, which Juliette explained means both her parents carry the frizzle gene (he dad was frizzled). I don't think you can cross two frizzles (real frizzles) because you get a frazzle lol but if they just carry the gene I think you are ok (from what I understand). I have a smooth chick that is half frizzled right now because her Dad carries the gene but is smooth. I'm still learning too...so please correct me if I've said anything wrong.

If your bird LOOKS smooth, then it does not carry a gene for frizzle (frizzle is dominant and cannot be hidden)....it MAY carry a hidden gene for silkied because silkied is recessive (can be hidden). ONLY breed frizzled X smooth....NEVER frizzled X frizzled. (I personally do not mix frizzled with silkied).

Actually, a couple of my roosters have frizzled cape feathers but the rest of them are smooth so I was told they carry the frizzled gene. My little pullet is completely smooth except for frizzled back feathers. I also have a frizzled silkied from Juliette that I'm going to breed to my silkied roo. I love the frizzled silkied look as well as the frizzled, but I think it is a personal preference. I have lots of people who want only smooth eggs from me and just as many who want frizzled or silkied only.

I have my frizzle hen with a smooth rooster. But, Marilyn's breeder showed me her mom and dad, and both were frizzles.
I don't know what genes my rooster might have hidden in there though!
