Luvinrunnin, since Grady is only 5 hrs away from you, i would go to him if I were you.....I heard he is a great person to deal with. Personally, I prefer to buy bird or birds that I can see and feel, I did not have a choice when I started out that is why I had to order birds from out of state. I got lucky, mine turn out good!!!!

That is my plan! I would much rather pick them up anyway than have to ship them if I can help it. I am particularly upset about losing the little cocoapop cockerel though. I think he was going to be really nice. He had a nice upright stance with no training, and was starting to look really good. Wish I knew what the heck happened.

Disinfectants generally only work on "clean" surfaces (meaning all organic material has already been cleaned off, then you let the bleach or whatever you're using sit for as long as the directions say). I wouldn't think it would work great in sand.

The sun's UV rays help kill germs, too. If replacing the sand isn't an option, I would clean up the sand as much as possible, then keep raking/stirring it up every day to get as much exposed to the sun as possible. Make sure it's thoroughly dry. I would wait several months to put any new chickens in there, too.

I'm not a chicken expert, but I've had animals my entire life and have done my fair share of disinfecting cages.

Catwalk- I am jealous of your "gallivaunting in the western Caribbean." I have been married 5 years and we still haven't gone on our honeymoon! We did get married in Mexico, but that doesn't count as a honeymoon.

Thanks. I can rake the pen every day. I am thinking about just ordering a load of sand and bringing that in.

majpr question---non serama related-I just got some lav orp eggs and the box, packaging material and eggs smell like cigarette smoke. Do you think that I should put them in an incubator by themselves? Do you think the smell will get in my incubator and ruin it? I dont want to waste the eggs because I paid alot for them...not knowing they came from a chain smoker.
