American serama thread!

@WVduckchick
Couldn't resist holding this little silkie-serama mix. She's so tiny & looks mostly silkie - including the 5 toes! The daddy is the serama boy I hatched from you.

The fluff color is a nice shade of red-auburn but looked blackish at hatch due to the black skin. The beak is brown. There's no dome-head but I'm not sure on the cheeks.

I wanted to get a pic of a chick inside a tea cup.... but this little chick is too tiny for the smallest cup I could find. Instead I held her on a teaspoon in front of the cup. (If at the same distance, you'd see that she's less than 1/2 the size of the cup!)

I have a Silkie Serama mix hen she's 16 months old. Her daddy was a black breasted Serama and Mom was a black Silkie.

@WVduckchick
You sell Serama hatching eggs ? If so I'm interested. All my birds come from the same breeder so I need new blood.

I do. And my last broodies have just finished hatching chicks, so I'm finally collecting eggs that haven't been sat on for half a day! lol I have smooth and silkied. PM me any time. I also do auctions on the 24-hour auction thread, when I start getting too many eggs.

Look at this boy. Some eye candy
I'm getting another really great cock (black and gold) on Sunday and some pullets as well. 10 of my eggs are showing development as well and I've got some chicks already lol.

Once I sort who stays from the eggs and peeps, then I'm done for the year.

Most of you know my breeding birds live indoors which means space is limited. Next year I'll be hatching eggs for sale and to keep probably one cock and a pair of hens.

My serama pullet laid her very 1st egg Aug 27. Then nothing..... Yesterday I collected her 2nd egg - a whole week later. I was thinking perhaps she made some soft shelled eggs which were broken & eaten, but never found any evidence supporting that.

I'm used to seeing pullets making strange shaped eggs or unusual shells, but not such a long gap between eggs. Is this normal? About how many eggs per week should I expect?

Perfectly normal.
Mine lay 3-5 times a week depending on stress and temperature.

What do you cull (rehome )?
Honeythorn has a split comb and weighs 17 oz at 5 months. He's beautiful though.
I'm thinking about keeping a frizzled cockerel from my Silkie /frizzled pen when one shows up To replace him .
It's the comb that bothers me ...pet quality to someone else or cull completely .:barnie
I'm moving mine indoors and space is limited.
