It's been very difficult NOT incubating all these adorable little serama eggs we've been getting. Do you guys remember me telling you how I cleaned out my incubators & locked them up in storage? (I needed the help avoiding temptation.)
Well...... Last weekend (along with the snow), I happened to get a winter broody. It simply couldn't be avoided any longer! I'm not made of stone! I slipped some eggs under her. Some serama & some serama x silkie mixes. The hen raised 2 broods over the summer, so she has some experience. I candled 4 eggs a few moments ago & all 4 had veins.
At the moment DH doesn't know about the broody, and I feel there's no need to bring it up until when/if we hear peeping. I will have to blame this "unauthorized incubation" on the hen.![]()
I didn't know you had crested cream legbars too! I may ask to buy some CCL eggs from you in spring.I have one serama duo on eggs, and another single hen on eggs. I checked hers the other day and she had a pile of like 14 eggs! I left the 4 furthest along, maybe day 10ish.
And I just had 3 broody bantam cochins hatch some cream legbars for me last week. I just had to test those eggs.
Oh, and I have 15 black copper Marans in my incubator on day 13.![]()
