American serama thread!

I'm just learning about Seramas. Is this a silkie serama? I don't always like silkies, but I like his feathers.

Christine, if you want to breed and/or show you will want to be careful selecting your new birds. Serama (silkied, smooth or frizzled) should be vertical birds.
There is a lot of variety to choose from depending on what your goals are. Most important is to enjoy your birds!!

Thanks Carolyn. Don't worry -- I have help from Kate at OC Seramas.

I'm getting Seramas for my daughter to start showing in 4H and she's helping me choose birds that will be good for that. Of course, they are going to be spoiled little pets, too!

I'm already buying some for my daughter from OC Seramas, but I can see how these little guys could be addicting! I started out wanting to get some LF Faverolles and Ameraucanas for myself and somehow ended up getting Seramas for my daughter.

I've always been a duck person, too.

i think i saw that pair at kate's the other day...

if it is that pair, congrats because that hen was gorgeous and the roo is amazing... really a stunning pair... but, i really wanted that hen... HAHAHAHA... your daughter is so lucky...

Well, I hope that was her you saw then!

Was it a buff with black tail hen with a chocolate cocoapop (I think--I still don't know the color names well) cockerel? That's what we're getting--and they look really nice in the pics.

We're also getting a trio with a silver duckwing cockerel, a cocoapop hen, and a black & white hen. My daughter actually picked these colors out from pics Kate sent, because I told her she could choose her own birds, but I REALLY liked that buff w/black tail hen, so I had to get another pair.

So excited to get them!

Ok, after some loooooong thinking and research

I've decided to give Seramas a try! Since I've never owned a Serama before I still have ALOT of reading to do. I really want the Chocolates. I'd like to start out with good stock. I don't show so they don't have to be SQ....but I DO want good quality birds and PURE. I don't want a mix. Who are some well known, reputable breeders I could contact? I already have somebody in mind, already talked to her...but want to buy from at least 2 people if the price is right. I want to deal with an honest person who knows what they have. Thanks everyone!!!

one thing i have noticed here (since there are many "breeders" around my area) is that you really have to be picky with what you get... if all of these "breeders" weren't local to me, i would've gotten them from grady... but i like the fact that i can get many pictures, or even go see them walk around... i'm more for type, but lately, i have been biting into the color thing too... i really didn't want a chocolate roo, but i got one... i wanted a typey hen, but i got one with an alright type but great color and genes (i hope)...

i have also been seeing people that "breed" and have some birds with longer backs than my OEGB culls... LOL... they look like i can iron a shirt on them poor bird's back... just take a look at all of the pretty pictures here, and google image search the term serama... or look for serama standards... educate yourself on them, and then go shopping...

good luck...

LOL... she was eating bread out of my hand right now wile sitting on them eggs... i'm leaving her in the box for another day, but after that she's going into her own huge brooder in my room... i have never had a broody hen as dedicated as this... or really, never had a broody hen... i had one that sat until the chick was born, and she let it die... idiot... so i haven't let any of my OEGB brood again...

garcia curse...
