Well I did peel the shell away as I was convinced something was wrong. There was a little blood and the chick was facing the small end of the shell. When I looked at the shell, I could see that the air sac at the top was still intact so I guess this chick was just developing at the wrong end. It is alive but very weak and I do not expect it to live. I will be thrilled if it does. Did whatever I thought was right and I guess we all lose some now and then. 3 more eggs in the bator that show signs of life so maybe they will hatch properly. I already took 7 healthy ones out to the brooder from this hatch so I feel very lucky......so far 7/11.Thank you very much for your response. I know everyone always says "don't touch the eggs" but I think you have to use your judgement and I did. Well see what happens. I did need the support to know I was doing the right thing and that helped.

For sure it is just hard to know when to help.

I had others pipped and was afraid I would comprmise them.........

Awww, so excited to see new babies!!! Hope the hatching goes well, and Chickette, hope your little one makes it!

Well, it's still alive and getting around a little but I have left it in the incubator and will until it is stronger. I'm sure it is not out of the woods.

No, it is still in the incubator as it was very weak. Trying to walk but i will not put it with the others until I feel it is strong enough and of course the food and water are in the brooder. This just happened at lunch time today.

You might add a drop of honey or a sprinkle of sugar to the water or maybe some boiled egg yolk mixed with water. Good luck! My fingers are crossed.
