Cackling Hen, frizzled never been my cup of tea but lately with all the chick pics is winning me over....I like the look on your cockerel in the last pic.

I never really liked frizzled thought they were ugly little feather dusters until these two hatched

I have 14 all together I will get more pictures up i have 6 3 month old smooth and 7 4 weeks olds 2 frizzled and the rest smooth

I was never sure on frizzles until I felt them... The feathers feel so cool, I could pet them forever!! Congrats on your babies!! I might need one or two of those for my pet pen one of these days....

Personally, floppy comb is bad but I did not recall there is any section on the score card for it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

From what I have read, high protein feed and lack of sun light will cause the comb to grow big....genetic also contribute some of that too.

I use chick starter for my chicks the first 2 weeks then I switch em over to Nutri-blend Green (16% protein) from there on and I let them out a few hrs a day for excercise. Be very selective on his offspring if he is all you got in your program.

This is from the Standard of Perfection:
"Disqualifications
COMB: Comb foreign to the breed
Single comb falling below the horizontal plane on level with top of head.
Single comb with side sprig. Split comb.
Inverted Comb"

I would agree about watching the offspring.

Oh my. Poor Zaraki and his goofy floppy comb. I have other males. He's just my only smooth male. I have two frizzleds. They are looking a little shabby after being in a tiny metal cage. Their combs grew straight. And I have a total of 6 girls. 4 smooth. 1 frizzle. 1 curly.

You can still use Zaraki in your breeding program, all you have to do is pair him up with a smaller comb girl and select a better offspring to replace him in your next round. We all use the selective breeding to improve our flock, it helps us to eliminate the undesire gene or genes.

lol at ray and joey..... you to are crazy..... ray i hope you plan on attending the CC this year it would be great to have someone from nor cal there to rep that half of the state.....i know kate will be there and I am saving pennies for my CC fund but still dont know if ill make it....

as far as a job i think someone asked i have had several people tell me to go see em once im liscence so hopefully..... my schools pass rate is at 100 for 2 yrs straight so yeah they are tough on us LOL

Bill, I would love to be at the CC but then my bird and I are not ready to go up against the elites, give me 2 yrs and I will cook up something good for the CC. You know, the home grown and made!!!!! Unlike few others, I have full confident in what I do with the few I have. To buy other persons work is easy, to create something of your own require alot of hard work, research and knowlege.

I've been reading about Seramas for DAYS now and I am SOOOOOOOO confused about the colors!!!
hu.gif
I bought a Chocolate split from Juliette and I wanted to get a Chocolate pullet...but I'm not understanding all of these colors...like ginger or cocoapop, mottled, brown etc.? Are those chocolates split to those colors? I just don't understand!

I'm looking into buying the Serama Colours book as soon as Jerry gets back to me. What I want to do is start a project of Chocolate Silkies. I need a chocolate serama cockerel (which I bought) and Black Silkie pullets (thats getting shipped this week) I also wanted to get a chocolate serama pullet too, and a smooth chocolate serama cockerel. I was going to buy the smooth chocolate cockerel from Juliette but hers was killed so she needed this one for a little while longer.

So basically I guess my main question is this: Can I use a chocolate "mottled, laced, ginger, cocopop etc) for my project OR does it have to be JUST Chocolate??? I only raise/breed Silkies and know colors with them. These Seramas are difficult LOL!

Also, I don't "need" SQ or Class A or B. I'd be fine with Class D beings I'm working with the Silkies....I'd have to breed the offspring to be the size of a Silkie....

sooooooooo....if anybody has any Class D CHOCOLATE Seramas PLEASE let me know. I've contacted Jerry about his Class D birds because they are free except for the cost of shipping. I believe this is going to be a difficult but fun project for me
