American serama thread!

My advice is to be very careful....Serama do not breed true to color! What you see may not be what you get (genetically speaking). This is why only the White American Serama is current recognized by the ABA. There are some breeders who areworking on color projects but......food for thought. JMHO. Good luck with your project. May I ask why you chose Serama for your chocolate gene?

Carolynspeeps: Thanks! I'm still learning ALOT! I chose Seramas because, for one, I've always wanted them but never had a seperate coop for them. Secondly, I've been wanting to do a "project" for a couple years now and when I saw those Chocolate Silkies I just HAD to have them for myself!

So now I get to have my Seramas and do my project too

I wanted to use Seramas because they have the true chocolate gene, other breeds have the "dun" gene. I've seen many pics of what are supposed to be Chocolate Seramas but they all look different lol!!!

Anyone know of some Seramas in or around Georgia?

I'm DYING to get my hands on a cockerel or rooster.

I'd buy one of Juliette's beautiful roos, but I just can't justify the shipping cost

Well, I put my curly hen in with Zaraki and the younger girls. In about 2 seconds flat he greeted her by mounting her successfully (she didn't even care) then boasting his success as he stood next to her. She just eyed the stud muffin and began eating all his food. The other pullets hid. Animals sometimes just are WEIRD.

She's in SC. That's NEAR Georgia. I think the only thing stopping me from buying her birds online in the future is the fact I could probably drive to see her for the same price or less. I have relatives I could go see in or around her general vicinity.

Oh, really? For some reason I thought she was in California. Whooops. I agree, though. It would possibly cost me the same to drive to get a bird as it would to ship them.

Classes and work make a road trip nearly impossible though...

Yeah, shipping is definately expensive to ship birds!!! Thats why I was hoping to get a few of them to save on shipping costs. Juliette didn't ship mine yet because I was waiting for her auctions....but I don't want any that are up for auction. Absolutely GORGEOUS

BUT not what I'm looking for, for my project

So I'll be getting "Anthony" soon, all by his lonesome

I agreed with Carolynspeeps on serama do not breed true to their color. Since everyone started out with breed for type, they cross their serama with all kind of colors just to improve the type in their flock. Now its a genetic soup, it will take yrs of selective breeding to eliminate the undesire gene or genes to get what you want. If others can do it, we can do it too.....I am currently working on a laced/double laced cocopop silver duckwing and its a multiple colors which require alot of calculation to get the colors according to the written description. Btw, I have to use the European written description for refference since there is none in the US. Good luck with your project.

Here are few pics of my project.

I started out with him.

My F2, I am waiting to see how they color up. All the test mating slow down my progress in this project.
