American serama thread!

I had to special order it through my feed store, 50# was about $30 with tax. There is a Nutriblend Green, and a Nutriblend Gold. I'm not really sure of how to mix the two yet, they've been on green for the last week. Its going to take my seramas 2 years to eat 100 # of food!!

The breeders that I know use half green and half gold.

Nutriblend Green is a great serama food (I use it, too)...but around 8 months is a normal time for a sickle molt....I doubt the Nutriblend made it happen.

Bobby, you can get Nutriblend Green from any store that sells Purina...they may have to order it for you, and sometimes they don't want too if they have to buy a whole pallet. I buy mine from Lumber 2 in OKC...about 22.00 before taxes...I have to keerp on them to keep it in stock...they run out all the time...I buy 3 bags every 2 weeks.

I feed it too and mix it but they seem to prefer the gold sometimes then they switch and prefer the green. Anywhere there are pigeon breeders, they will carry it too but any Purine dealer can get it. The Mennonite feed store here carried it even before I knew about it. I had been feeding the Layena and they won't touch the Layena if they have the Nutriblend now. I give mine free choice oyster shell and figure they know when they need it, like my horses and minerals who only eat it when needed. I've also gotten the parakeet grit and gravel that has bits of lime (calcium) and they like that too. The Nutriblend is a whole food so I don't give much as far as treats except when it's really cold, then they get a little fine cracked corn and ground flax (I know you don't have to grind the flax for chickens but I do anyway) with grit. I think they handle the cold better with a little extra fat and the heat from the corn but they need the grit if they're eating anything but processed feed, like corn, seeds etc. or they can't digest it.

sue your birdies are spoiled LOL.... you can tell u love em and they love you HAHA..... sorry for my abscence....was fighting a migraine off all day yesterday....next time i may need a bigger stick

i've been feeding them the purina green stuff, and noticed that their poop stinks... i'm also switching back to junior mix for my seramas and OEGB... the extra pellets makes for stinky dropping... me no likey... especially since i have to wash their water dish by hand, and right now... my hands STINK!... my sister just said... "hey, it smells like spices" i was like... "no lady... that's bird poo... my hands smell like chicken poo a lot..."

LOL...

it sucks especially since they're right next to my bedroom door... yikes...

This is my pair. I didn't get a chance to help my daughter take hers outside, because I realized my gelding had a hoof abcess that needed to be dealt with. It's always something...
