American serama thread!

I use baby shampoo, in case it gets in their eyes.. no more tears... LOL

dawn is least abrasive to the skin....they use it to clean wildlife after an oil spill....get the regular though.....remember anything with a scent is perfumed and can irritate the birds skin....ive also heard of using dog oatmeal shampoo as well

Oh...and Teena has graciously given us 3 bitty eggs so far. She doesn't much like her basket, which I put a fake egg in, but just drops 'em on the floor. I put her and her egg in the basket and she just examines the egg then hops out.

I actually made scrambled eggs the other night with them but added 3 medium eggs from the other girls.

Regarding omelette: My daughter for a fair project...did a poster on Seramas. It takes 3 serama eggs to equal 1 grade A egg...so if you want to have a 4 (standard size) egg omelette....you would need 12 eggs.

Wanted to give a short update on my little serama - the one with the bet going on regarding its color...

...Well....Daughter had a friend over. I told her playing with the chicks is okay...they stay inthe brooder box - you reach over. Be very careful.

I walked in the back door just in time to witness said friend holding little Frankie (someone had posted this name and I loved it - as in Frank Sinatra) out of the box, using only 1 hand. And not really holding. Flat hand with Frankie on hand. And of course Frankie went sky diving. Frankie hit my linoleum floor...falling probably 3 feet. I was horrified and furious at my daughter for not protecting Frankie. So I scooped Frankie up and placed him/her back in the brooder and kept a close eye on him/her not expecting him/her to live. Well, I guess youth was on Frankie's side. He/she recovered and is doing just fine - that was 2 days ago. Long/stern talk with daughter.

Well, Frankie's name has been changed to Bumble. Why you ask....well he/she is about the size as a bumble bee....but also because ....

....Bumbles bounce.....

....(bet you didnt' kow that).....Any of you who have younger children and have watched Rudolph 100 times should understand that. Those of you who don't...ask....I will explain.

I will post photo of Bumble next week.

My Cannonball got his name from habitually leaping out of hands. I'm sure all babies' bones are fairly pliable, made to survive more trauma that older ones.
