Giant Silkie Project.

Does This Sound Like A Good Idea Silkie Lovers?

True. Standard bred silkies are not a favorite of mine
Same, though we own a few. My sister's Bantam Show Stock Silkie rooster kicked the bucket a few days ago due to something circulating through the flock currently. Still got a Calico, & his daughter's doing good.

Do you have any pure bred birds that you breed to American standard?
I've got Purebreds, Malays(Original None Standard Bred), 1 Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, 3 OEGBs(Exhibition type), 2 OEGBs(None Exhibition type), 1 Brahma Cockerel(Standard Bred Cull), 3 Standard Bred American Silkie Bantams.

Other birds I have are American Gamefowl crosses for a project, I've got a Blue Face Hen, & Blue Face/Oriental cross as part of my base. I need more games as these two hens won't live forever to continue the projects.
Project Chameleons, these are a hardy Landrance breed I'm producing.

I'm using Malays for both the Giant Silkies, & Parrot Beak Aseel breeding projects.

I got 2 Mystery Game Bantams for my Project Survival Chickens/Roman Gamefowl breeding project, which also includes the American Gamefowl hens.

Will be butchering Scaredy tomorrow. His feet did defrost during the warm-up, he had very little tissue damage which is good, but this sudden drop in temp we just had refroze his feet worse, & has managed to freeze one of his shanks as well this time, so he doesn't want to wall due to it.
Definitely gonna need more Chinese Silkies.

How are the Malay Silkie crosses doing? Are they near laying date yet? If it's not to big a of a hassle could you send some photos? I am really wondering how they turned out!
They're doing good. All have started laying last year, but only 2 are currently laying eggs right now.
I'll get pictures tomorrow.

Rest in peace Scaredy. At least you serve a new purpose.

Yes, he's not a small bird under that fluff. He's alittle thin, but still fairly meaty. Despite being 7 years old he was fairly easy to cut up for soup, & he never went into rigor mortis.

This is part of what I mean when I've said Chinese Silkies are more Aseel like if you look at his build.
