Need HELP iI have a hen in my arms thats lost a toe nail and hasnt stopped bleeding even though I've been holding pressure for 15 mins. She seems to have lost a lot of blood. Its her small toe so I cant wrap it and I dont have anything for this type of problem. So ay advice would be wonderful. Sorry for typing only using one hand.

I think we have corrupted...oops I mean....converted yet another chicken lover into wanting a Serama. This is really helping the plan for a Serama in every household. LOL. He is calling them pocket birds. His wife wants one for a house pet. He has been assimilated (sorry - this if from star trek for all of you out there that do not understand).

Super glue is the way to go. I agree cauterizing was the way to go, but for the faint of heart...super glue is easier. Silver nitrate is great too. Didn't kow you could still get that stuff...gotta go looking for it now.... I once had to cut spurs and they bled like crazy, I was able to put pressure bandages on them, but a toe would be hard.

SO HERE IS THE QUESTION OF THE DAY.....HOW MUCH BLOOD IS INSIDE OUR FEATHERD KIDS??? Anyone know?

Good question. Do you know? Can't be much.

Haven't a clue........It can be one of my online research projects tonight [ instead of watching U-tube hee hee], if no one else posts the amount......I will report back in the AM!

He is about 7 weeks old now.......any idea about what he should weigh? His comb and wattles are growing and turning red......no crowing yet. A lot of singing and chattering in my ear!

I honestly have no idea about correct weights and all other than when they get over 16 oz. BUT some one else will be able to answer that.......enjoy every precious second of that chittering Brenda........when the day comes that its gone, you will be sad........"my baby is growing up".........

I am enjoying every little thing that he does and expect his antics to change but hope he will continue his relationship with me. I'll keep you posted on his size and development. I can't stop talking about him anyway!! I will have to post some more pics.

From what I have read on here, roos do better as solo pets than hens. I hope so for you and Lucky!

Froggie- I held the bird, Dave applied the iron. Honestly, as gruesome as it sounds, it wasn't that bad, it only takes a half-second touch to seal the vein. And it worked instantly. I've burnt myself worse taking casseroles out of the oven.

I wouldn't use superglue for fear of getting the bird permanently stuck to my forehead or something.

You all move too fast for me

I love the silly funny stuff and the photo's are all too sweet.

I posted one of my cockerels for sale in the 8 weeks and older section and I think he has another day before the auction is completed but there are only a few hours left on the hatching eggs I have up for auction. The money all goes to the Cajun Classic 2012 so it's all going toward the biggest Serama show anywhere and it will help to promote our favorite breed. I added more eggs to the auction since the bidding has been so generous so there are 24+ plus eggs now instead of 18. I have my new incubator running, there won't be any more hatching eggs offered for sale so this may be a one time deal. It includes eggs from my blues, chocolates, wheatens, mottleds and blacks. The only one not laying right now is my frizzled pullet.
