American serama thread!

I just keep the little areas in the bottum of the bator full of water at all times...hope that is enough...the last two times i have set eggs...i had about an 85% hatch rate...so im not gonna worry about one more thing...i already worry enough...lol

i looked at the temp this morning when i got up...and it was at like 96 degrees...turned it up and it went to 101...so its difficult...but im sure under the hen...the eggs are never at a constant temp?

Quote: Supposed to, LOL, but they sometimes surprise you! I think I ran my incubator on the upper side of 99.5 (meaning closer to 100) and mine pipped early, really early! This time, I have my inubator holding between 99.0 (at the coldest time in the morning) and 99.5 at the warmest time of the day. I'm leaving it there! Hopefully that plus my adjustment for the humidity will give me an excellent hatch (barring the post office shaking my eggs up??)
What do u do for humidity??

Lunar, thank you for the message!! I'm gonna have my DD read it when she gets home, cause I still don't get it.
Sally, I filled the wells, put 1 Tupperware container covered with a screen, and a mug with a tall sponge sticking up out of it to get it to70. It's working!!
So far 6 are out all a different color!! 2 more pips, and waiting on 2! I have gotten nothing done today.

Thats so awesome!!!

So sorry artsyrobin. I mistakenly thought Cluck-Cluck had lost Joe. My sympathy for your loss. I cant see well and I apologize still.
No problem- just nice knowing folks that feel the way i do about my birds- a friend offered me eggs from joes line, so that will be nice- he and josie never managed to hatch any- these are the pair the eggs will come from when they start laying again-

here are some of the chicks having a field trip this afternoon in the livingroom- they were all over the place!

Mine was really low too (well, it was 98.6) so I waited until 2 PM or so and it was still at 98.7 (nothing in there, I'm setting it up). So I immediately increased heat, closed the lid and something was keeping the lid from closing! I messed up my settings (again) because the darn lid didn't close all the way! Ugh! I think I have it back where I had it again, :fl , and this is why I'm trying to get all that fussin out of the way before the eggs arrive and are set, :lau

Not sure this question is for me but I plan on going for 35-40% the first 18 days then 70ish for the last 3 :D

Wow, what a great action shot!. Love the legs in the air. If someone is holding that one, don't let on! :D

I have a chick hatching as I type this!!! It pipped sometime last night. Her name will be Noel because, as the song says "The first Noel...." I messed up last night and tried to candle a couple eggs, checking for internal pips. The metal marble plug got bumped and rolled in, right onto an egg. There is a hairline crack now, so that one will be named Miracle if it makes it out!! Lesson learned, I'm hands off for the duration now.
Hi you all--this is my first time to post on this thread. I'm from just north of Chattanooga, TN. I've been into seramas for about 2 years. This past summer I dropped one of the eggs when I was checking under the hen and cracked it. It was about half way thru incubation and I knew I would lose it if I didn't do something. So I spread a thin layer of super glue just over the crack and put it back under the hen as soon as it dried. It hatched!-and I named him Miracle.

Alexandra in Meigs Co--do you ever go to any of the shows? There is one in Sparta on 12-15-12 and I've been told there will be serama tabletop judging. It's about 2 hours from me and I'm trying to decide whether to go or not.
