American serama thread!

Bheps Serama's ------ Even after the PO played football and kick ball with those eggs....
Harmony has 5 viable from them!! Its day 16 today!! I lock down on day 18 right???

When I hatched her eggs I locked down on Day 18. The little one that hatched for me turned out to be a frizzle. She was so tiny that I named her Pee Wee.

Hey Kukupecpec: Congrats on the new coop. My signal died after I typed some ideas about using the dresser for a brooder... Just a thought have you considered laying it down and dividing it up to create different sections? I know it may be easier having the babies at one level that way and just a thought since you seem to have some good spare wood to use to fix it up. Putt a little wire and plastic and there you go! Easy access and easy to keep tidy and warmer for tiny babies ans so on.

My girl Springtime hatched 5 babies today, on day 22. I've been taking her nesting box inside at night but I guess the eggs still "slow cooked", with the chilly weather during the day?
Yaaay, Congratulations!

kukupecpec, really like your coop, and how you made it! Funny how recycled things can still look so nice and neat and cool!

Sorry for quoting my self, but I got burried and really need opinions.
Hi everyone, I need your advice. last time I hatched chicks, it was summer and hot here. This time, I'm setting up the incubator well ahead of time. I had a really bad hatch rate the last three attempts, so I want to do all I can to be stable and correct. I think I have the humidity correct at 35-40% and should be able to get it as high as I want during lockdown by removing my blocks.

This time I wanted to err on the side of coolness rather than warmth. Right now my incubator day or night is staying steady between 98.7 and 99.3. Do you think I should stop messing with it now and call it good? Or is 98.7 just too cold? Thanks for your advice. These will be Serama eggs, so if it makes any difference...........?

Note, I have been very successful upping the temperature with a blanket on top of the 'bator, so if the temp drops around here (more likely to get hotter actually) I should be able to compensate with a blanket. And knowing how my 'bator is working, I should be able to adjust that way (with the blanket) pretty accurately, and will not touch this setting itself again once we start :p
When I try to increase the heat, I get more like 100.5 and I really wanted to stay on the cooler side... ?

Hey all! Hatching is over, and my final count is 8 beauties. Jingle, Sugar Plum, Miracle, Holly, Snowball, Noel, Cocoa, and still deciding on #8's name.
Bhep's eggs are fantastic. She sent me 15. 3 clears, 2 quit early on. 2 never made it out today (so sad because I could have saved the 1, but missed my window). So 10 out of 15 went into lockdown, and 8 made it out!!! I couldn't ask for better, and hopefully I can control myself to not order more till spring, at least.
Good Luck Sally & dncarr09 (and all the other hatches going on right now).
One more thing, gotta give credit where credit is due, God is Good!!!

Today I got 3 eggs out of 5 girls and one is still quite young, so I don't figure she will be laying for a bit. I can't wait to set a few and see if my little man is doing his job. Good luck to all that have eggs cooking. I hope we all have great hatches.
