American serama thread!

I have all flock feed but read where you have to grind it up for Serama's and I don't have a grinder.
Also is all flock feed good for laying? Is it enough with the oyster shell?
How long do Serama's live? I am told they have a short life span.

That's all you would have to do is put it in a ziploc bag or something similar and roll it with a rolling pin. I only ground their medicated feed for the first week or so after that they got the full size crumbles of chick feed. The All Flock I have is a pellet so I will crush it to make it smaller for them. Yes it is enough with the oyster shell as long as the protein is 18% or more in your All Flock.

So, I've never had any luck hatching Serama eggs. A few months ago, I switched things around to see if a different genetic mix would make a difference. A couple weeks ago, I put eggs in the incubator, not really expecting anything, but it looks like I'm going to have some chicks (as long as they continue to develop). I put an ad up in the Buy/Sell/Trade section if anyone local is interested.

These are the parents. Both are very tame and sweet. Sir Henry (my daughter named him) is a character! He is so full of himself. The hen is a black and white silkie. All chicks will be smooth feathered, but may carry the silkie gene.

just had to pop in with warm Christmas Wishes from Boaz- he is a kick!
