American serama thread!

I'm curious as to why someone like this newcomer would want to cause controversy. Is it just that people want to be ugly? Or do they have some kind of scam they're working? It's weird. Of course I know some people are sick and emotionally unstable and need to argue and such, which is all this probably is, but I just don't see the point. Regardless of what anyone wants to think, we now have an American version of what we call a Serama, we will make of what we have the best we can. If one were to believe the Serama in the United States were actually bred from Golden Retrievers rather than chickens, it no longer matters. We have what we have and those that like them, like them.

Why does this keep happening to our thread? We go along happily and another dip stirs up our peace? Ugh!!

Serama
It's obvious which one is the Serama and which one is the Kapan. And looking at everyone's pictures of their birds on this thread, they have excellent Serama's.

Actually, the blood doesn't matter, to my understanding. Chickens aren't pedigreed. If I take an orpington and a wyandotte and the offspring looks just like a rock, and breeds true, for all intents and purposes I have a rock.

Why should others hide the truth just because you are uncomfortable with it? If we import more serama, what are they? Truly, they are serama. Not to call the kapans we have now kapans seems to be the foolish thing. I am sorry your psyche struggles with this, that your beloved non-seramas face controversy. But I did not import kapan and call them serama. Someone else duped you, I am only speaking truth. I am sorry revealing the fiction causes you discomfort.

Julie, your understanding of genetics seems weak. A breed is built upon genotype, which you are confusing with phenotype. Even if on its own your "rock" has a similar phenotype, breeding it with a true rock will cause a shift in genotpye and hence ruin your phenotype. I am not sure who told you "blood doesn't matter" gave you inaccurate information. Perhaps because you don't have that knowledge is the reason you accept a kapan as a serama. "Blood matters".

Um, both birds above are kapan, neither is serama. It is a good example of how these kapans are misrepresented. Below is serama.

That's awesome. Gotta love those events. It's AMAZING what we take from spending a little time with our parents on those fun events. That;s how I got so handy, little things here and there. I bet your DD with have all kinds of cool skills when you're done with her!!

Ok I have a curosity question for some who may have my dilema also. I want to keep a rooster but I have neighbors who live close to my chicken house. I wanted to know how much does it help to keep the rooster insidee at night so he doesnt crow until later in the morning? I worry that him crowing early will bother the neighbors. Thanks for any ideas or experience with this problem.

well, depending on the rooster, my seramas crow in the morning when it gets light, so that might be the way to go, they do have little crows though
