Lmbo! I wish I would have missed it, I forgot the #1 rule- Don't feed the trolls!
Ok I have a curosity question for some who may have my dilema also. I want to keep a rooster but I have neighbors who live close to my chicken house. I wanted to know how much does it help to keep the rooster insidee at night so he doesnt crow until later in the morning? I worry that him crowing early will bother the neighbors. Thanks for any ideas or experience with this problem.
If it's just the early crowing that will bother them I think that would work fine. They do have a habit of starting up about 3 a.m., so make sure it will be somewhere you can still get sleep, lol. They also crow throughout the day. Mine have a very soft, quiet crow and aren't too bad, if you can get by with any rooster I think a serama is your best bet.

I missed a lot too huh? I agree and thanks for telling me how to block.

I have to say, I didn't see Tim attacking anyone here and I don't think there's anything wrong with saying something controversial. It bothers me when people get blasted just for voicing something that goes against the majority.

I have no clue whether or not there is any merit to what he's saying; I just know how it feels to be attacked just for disagreeing with someone.

I've seen someone here on BYC claim that Ancona ducks are Dave Holderread's Magpie culls. I didn't get mad at him, I asked why he thought that and if he had any evidence. Interestingly, he had no response to that.

Christine,

You are correct. It is usually those who claim to be attacked that do the attacking. That is very common in those breeding these mislabeled Kapans.

I have had discussions with Malaysians who knew the exporters to the U.S. The one who selected the larger flock was well known to have bought the birds, Kapans, at local flea markets for the equivalent of 50 cents to $1 each, then claiming they were champion serama!

There is a reason your "serama" produce so many birds in excess of 500 grams while Malaysian serama don't (Kapan ae missing a gene). Look how long and low your birds look unposed. Serama are naturally short and upright and require no posing. Watch some videos on youtube of the birds in Malaysia versus yours. The difference is obvious.

This is not popular information. And the person in the U.S. selling these birds likes to say simply giving this information is an attack. This culture has ben created, hence the fighting among breeders. This hiding of information is what cripples this breed and why no one gets along. Reveal any kind of truth, and you will be blamed for an "attack" that never occured. Think about how many times over and over this has played out with the main group: So many times, all to hide this informtion.

This is why this breed is so popular with those new to chickens and uneducated in their genetics and history. They are the ones naive enough to fall for the lie. Just because you pay $100 for what came from 50 cent flea market birds does not make it a champion serama.

Tim, I don't know where you get your brilliant insight from, but you are wrong. After this post, you are blocked. MY birds are not "long and low" when they are unposed. They look nothing like the horizontal Kapans I have looked at pictures of. Where you got the "50 cent flea market" idea from is anyones guess. I find it hard to buy that you tracked down the very people anyone bought birds from. I think you came in to knock everyones birds for a laugh and you will fade back into the inner circle of ASA, only to resurface with another name sometime down the line.

True, but threads will be closed down for controversy. The correct thing to do, in this case, imo, would be to make his own thread, where he can say whatever he likes.

Longshot post, but looking for someone who might be missing a serama in the city of Ventura. Found in the Ondulando area.
I'm just GUESSING serama, because this bird is so tiny and has a big beautiful tail. Barely the size of a pigeon.
Only looking for the original owner at the time- Maybe if you can contact me describing the missing bird, or the number on it's green leg band; I'll let you know where you can come and pick it up.

If I don't have any luck finding the owner, I will put it up for adoption- This one is way to little for our rowdy flock.

Thanks!

Threads don't get closed because there are strong differences of opinion. They get closed, and people get warned, because of the way the opinions are stated. It's the difference between "I don't agree" and "you are an idiot for thinking that." Things can escalate into some nasty name calling and other inappropriate fighting. So, disagree all you want, just be sure to be civil and polite in how you phrase your opinion. A quick review of the rules (TOS, bottom of page) might be in order.

Blocking someone who "gets your goat" is often an excellent solution, as someone already mentioned.

My darling Charlie is LOUD (a Sultan) and I put him in a dog crate (small one) after everyone goes to sleep, then let him out again after 9:30 AM. He sleeps in there in the house (as I don't want him to get cold this time of year all alone) I put a blanket over the dog crate (one of those thick moving blankets is perfect) and if he crows in there, it's very muffled, we don't hear it while sleeping. In the morning when I let him back with his ladies, they don't seem to have missed him, they don't act like he is somebody they don't know (which is what I was worried about) and it's getting to be routine for them. I plan on making a box in the coop so I can just put him in there from the roost. I plan on a slightly complex vent system and sound proofing. This will simply make it easier for me to deal with on a daily basis. I've noticed that total darkness is really the best solution, they just sleep. though they will be startled by loud noises and crow then. Hope that helps! When I get this thing finished I'll post about it!

The problem with the poster was that they were so negative, dismissed any rebuttal rudely and attacked people, in my opinion. Also, the point is completely mute unless his point was to give the American Serama a different name, Kapan. Ok, fine, give it another name if you like, but we know the bird as a Serama now, so that's what we call it. There is nothing that can be done about it anymore, imports are no longer possible. So lets move on!

Yes, and I felt there was a definite attack on forum members, so I reported it. they have been blocked since I realized what they were.

But heck, it got the thread moving again!

I felt attacked too, and insulted. I have done my research, and don't understand how what is true in other poultry breeds doesn't apply to serama's, or why the name they are called matters, but whatever. After it was pointed out how to block what I viewed as offensive, problem solved.

Back to Serama's.
My little cockeral has developed a habit of doing the nasty with my hand when I reach in the cage.

Any ideas on how to discourage him, lol?
