American serama thread!

Argh!! Mistyped!  You are right, it's in Manteca.  They are so close I tend to think of them, and Turlock, kind of as one big area (no offense, sorry)...LOL!

I let my serama roos and d'uccle hens all out together. They squabble a little at first just until they figure out which girlfriend they want. Mine walk together with the hens all the time. They'll form little mini clusters, and still walk around together as a big group. just plop them all out there and watch for wounds to take care of. After a while, they won't fight all

Hi guys, I could use your help / opinions...

Ok, I had it good before the New Years Day hatchalong, LOL.  I had a nice group of Seramas, 3 girls and 1 boy, all growing up together and very sweet.  Then I hatched out two more cockerels.  I don't know how to house them anymore.  I don't want to split up the original friends, they free range around the back yard together so nicely, they're so happy!  But what/how do I integrate the two cockerels?  Do I keep them separate in a bachelor pen the rest of their lives?  I could give each male a female, but then the running around freely would have to end.  They wouldn't even be able to share a run together!  I don't see how I can make a happy home for my new boys without braking up the happy home my group of 4 are currently enjoying. 

It's so sad!  Do you think, with Seramas, that they could live together, the 3 pullets and 3 cockerels (2 of which are still growing up)  As I understand it, the roos will never get along, especially with so few hens.

Any suggestions?  Thanks for any help!

You can put them together if you have enough room so they can have their own "territory". Might consider a few more hens to, IF you want to keep all the roos.....I have 3 roos with hens, AND they were not raised together, after the initial squabbles of:" I AM THE BIG MAN", they settled down and are all sleeping on the same roost and have no problems now. They have a 5ft X 30ft run, plus the attached coop, to play in so they have lots of room. Hope that helps......
P.S. I did acquire a roo once that was so dominant he just could not co-exist like this...but that is an exception to the rule it seems in the serama world.

Oh wow, you don't know what a relief this is to hear! Thank you both so much! They will have a lot of room, so hopefully it will work!

I have a bit more time before these chicks are big enough to introduce, I have a very large coop for 6 Seramas so maybe I can introduce them all at the same time to the new location, then hopefully they'll work it out quickly enough?!?!

Least now I have hope!

I have four 'roos right now, and two hens (soon to have two more hens to add! YAY!) that are pure Serama. The Serama roos tend to pal around, father and son, with the odd man out cruising around and picking up chicks. I also have a couple/four crossed hens out there, and it's fascinating to watch the allegiances change as sexual receptivity changes! But the Seramas just don't seem to argue much between themselves--spats are rare, short and quick, quite minor with usually little to no harm done.

But..the arguments between the OTHER roosters and the Seramas can be bloody disasters in all senses of the phrase! The Seramas like to 'club together' and whale the tar out of the two crossbred roos (who are leaving, thank you!) and the Banty Orp roosters both.

I'd say introduce all of them to the neutral, new territory together--and make sure you sprinkle some savory treats around with a liberal hand--mealworms are the BEST bribe around here!!. They'll go in, be very busy, and realize that oh, gee, there's more...oh well...at least if things go smoothly.

I don't know anything about goats, but I do know Pearl is 100% beautiful and adorable! What kind of goat is she? What do you do with goats, milk them? Or just for fun and show?

Thanks Cluck cluck, Pearl is a MIniature Nubian. Her kind are good milk goats. We don't milk here. Just breed to sell. Goats make great pets.
